Getting on the groom

We got our groom on... well, at least Mom & the pup.  Kitty isn't quite into grooming season yet (Summer, when he sheds!)

Wednesday we just had a quiet "mommy and me" day.  Thursday while Ember was off at day care, I arranged to get Dexter's oil changed.

Friday my son's first wife came over and met Ember.  Ember behaved so well, I was proud of her.  We even showed off the parlor trick of "ItsYerChoice" game with cheese.  Caught up on ex-DIL's family news, her career happenings, etc., and was able to give her life encouragement.  She looks wonderful, by the way, and I'm so glad that both of them landed on their feet post-divorce.

I have not mentioned her visit to either my son or my current DIL.  They have their hands full enough with foster kiddo and all the drama surrounding that entire situation.

Saturday afternoon early, we took both Ember and Carl (plus foster-grand kid) to the big dog run.  We took the dogs up to the agility section first.  Foster grand-kiddo crawled through the tunnel playing tag with another human kid.  This got quite a few of the dogs present VERY interested.  Ember got partway into it but backed out when she encounter humans.

This photo, from the rear, with no ability to recognize anybody, is apparently OK to put up here.  It's son, foster grand-kiddo, and me, headed for the exit, dogs bounding in the distance.

We did another little "practice ride" with the new seat protector flopped up to separate kiddo from doggo.

The outing wore me out.  Wore Ember out, too, but she wanted more mommy company once we were again "home alone".  I indulged her and went back downstairs to her bark.  I felt the need to unwind a bit, too.  Not that we did anything exciting with that extra time.  Just napped on the couch together until she was ready to transfer herself to the crate.  Bonding time.

Groomed on Tuesday, muddy on Saturday.  Life of a pampered dog, a happy dog, a tired dog.

Sunday morning I'm visiting the world of insomnia, having awakened between 2 and 3.  Gave up and got up about 3, and luxuriated with a warm shower.

Life is good.

Spark on!

  1. Looks like a great time with everyone and I know what you both me about being tuckered out after company. It sure is nice to just relax on the couch together. Have a wonderful Sunday and week ahead.

    1. My favorite dog time. I can feel my body relaxing to it when she puts her head on my knee. Hope you have a great weekend too, tomorrow is US Memorial Day. But I think the Canadian Victoria Day was last weekend. Some years they coincide, some years they don't.

  2. Well, glad that your ex-DIL stopped and yes, probably just as well to keep that visit to yourself.

Sounds like a good week all in all.

Insomnia . . . not a destination I like visiting, for sure. Hope you find a new destination tonight!

    1. Ember was kind enough to curl up in her crate so I could grocery shop and get a nap. That helped with the visit to insomnia. When I got up it had stopped dripping outside. We were able to get a neighborhood walk in. Now we are chilling on the couch, to the sound of the Indy cars.

Hope you and Jason are having as good a weekend as you can, and that all the recovery that needs to happen is happening at your house.

  3. How wonderful that you continue to stay in touch with former DIL. The world needs more civility. Nice group photo. All the fresh air wears one out, be it human or canine.

Cemetery trip planned for tomorrow. I can remember when it was called "Decoration Day". 🪦🪦

    1. I also remember "Decoration Day" and trips to the cemetery to put flowers on my grandfather (WWI Vet)'s grave. During those visits to his widow, my grandmother, the photo albums would come out and we would hear the stories of his service, and how he came home to read his own death notice, when it was his brother who had fallen on the battlefield. His brother's daughter was raised by her grandparents.

Most folks have somewhere in their family tree where children had to be taken in and raised... on mom's side there was a cousin whose parents were lost in an auto accident, raised by his grandmother. You and I are now in the generation that's responsible to pass the stories along, so they don't get lost in the generational shuffle.

Hope the weather is good for your trip to decorate!

  4. It's nice that you and your ex-dil still enjoy each other; it speaks of a good relationship. And yes, I can see how it could be something not to hide, but not to rush to share either.

My maternal grandfather and paternal step-grandfather both served in WWII and came home. My step-grandpa Smith was so proud when I went Army like he did. :D

    1. Choice of service branch is a big deal to veterans, sometimes. I know my son went Army because his Dad did, even though his dad was drafted. He did not go Navy, like a few other family members. Son always roots for Army in the Army-Navy game.

Yes, we'll get around to sharing about former DIL's visit at some point but this is a rather tricky time in the Foster process right now. Save it for later.

  5. It sounds like you had a wonderfully full week! It's great that you and the pup got some pampering in, even if Kitty isn't quite ready for summer shedding season.

What a sweet "mommy and me" day you had, and it's always a good feeling to get those car maintenance tasks out of the way. How lovely that Ember was so well-behaved when your son's first wife visited! It's clear you're very proud of her, and that "ItsYerChoice" game sounds like a fun trick. It's also wonderful that you were able to reconnect and offer some encouragement.

The dog run sounds like quite an adventure! It's so sweet that your foster grand-kiddo was having fun in the agility tunnel. Even if Ember was a bit shy, it sounds like everyone, including the dogs, had a great time. And a good nap with Ember after a busy day sounds like the perfect way to unwind.

Hope you managed to catch up on some sleep after your early start on Sunday!(((BIG HUGS)))

    1. Kind of hoping for quiet routine this first week in June, as busy weeks keep piling on. Summer, right?
