Looking and sounding like Christmas

Ember got a short round-the-block walk on leash Wednesday noonish, then we drove to the library where she sat in the car while mom swapped out books.  Turned out the last book I selected was just not suiting my current mood, so I swapped it for a Debbie Macomber Angel book, which suits the holiday spirit.

I made my follow up appointment for the regular optometrist, for the 23rd.  Ember will have her grooming, and I'll get my new glasses prescription measured.

Thursday brought another doggy day care day, and the human returned to the personal trainer for the first time in a month!  Between the trainer losing his father-in-law, and being ill the week after, and my house stuff (plumber) and my weather-wimping, we had missed four weeks!   He will be out Christmas week, so I'll be doing Thursday with him next week to make the next "gap" 10 days, instead of longer.

I got a haircut Thursday afternoon.

Friday, we took two car rides, but no leash walk.  Mommy was cold, and it's not even "as cold as it's going to get".  But it is good "glow in the dark" fetch time of year, and my girl zips out there to earn her treats!  I'm trying to think where we went on our rides... once would have been the coffee drive-thru, the other the grocery store, now that I know for sure what's been requested to bring along to the Christmas gathering.

Saturday morning dawned cold, and the snowflakes came and dusted the ground.  Ember napped in her crate while I baked cookies (not part of the requests for Christmas day).  It generally takes me about three sheets of cookies before I relearn the timing, every year!  These are the oatmeal Scotchies, which were Kevin's favorite cookie, and in the next generation, are my son's favorite, too.

We took one car ride Saturday morning, to the coffee drive-thru. Then we settled on backyard play time, first with some glow in the dark fetch, then later solo while the hu-mom did human stuff.

After some training games we napped together on the couch while a Christmas movie played on the TV.

New doggie toys are being brought out.  I try to limit it to one at a time, and every other day.  There's a squeaky wreath and a squeaky flat gingerbread man on the floor in that photo.

This one only lasted one play session!  It's a soft plastic that she can really sink her teeth into.  Molded to be shaped like a tree ornament, dubbed "orna-mutt" by the Bark Box people.

This Santa seems to be sturdier but it does not squeak.  It does bounce nicely and makes a fine fetch toy when it's dry outside.

Stay warm.  Saturday night to Sunday morning temperatures are supposed to dip to 4℉.  Not as cold as it can get around here, but certainly colder than it's been this season so far.

Life is good.  Spark on!

  1. I am the same with cookie timing too. Sounds like a busy normal week in your household with Christmas trimmings (movie). Have a wonderful week both you, Ember and Prisoner. Huge hugs

    1. Hopefully I'll get rid of several of those cookies this afternoon when I jaunt over to FGC's basketball game. Saints help us, the kids are looking at Corgi puppies!

  2. I need to venture forth & puzzle out a few more gifts for immediate family - I failed to mention in my blog our big gift from Z & V, which is a new couch… Z did a great job of picking a nice model out (nice firm seating, durable fabric upholstery in grayish-green earthtone color) Those college dividends are really paying off! but I hope Z didn’t pay too much, I’ve given him plenty of warnings about CC debt!

    1. Kids and debt, sometimes I think they don't hear a word we preach. Thankfully, my son survived those times and he appears to be doing OK for now.

  3. Glad Ember had her doggy day care! Hope all goes well w/the trainer.

Good luck w/the optometrist on the 23rd.

Yeah for the haircut! Makes us feel so much better.

Those oatmeal scotchies look so good.

It has been absolutely frigid this weekend. Supposed to get a break tomorrow. Waiting for it!

    Stay warm.

    1. Yeah, I saw you folks got it even colder than we did! Hoping for a more moderate work week ahead, for all of us.

I got rid of about half the batch of cookies to family at the BB game. Temptation dismissed! But baking is tradition, right?

      hugs & blessings right back!

  4. Brrrr…..it was a FL chilly 50 degrees when I walked this morning AND I’ve been chilled all day. 4 degrees…YIKES!! Ember is one lucky pup to get so many new toys to enjoy….that gingerbread boy is adorable.
Your cookies look soooo delicious…I could almost taste them! Seems like you, Ember, and The Prisoner have settled into a nice weekly routine that works! Enjoy this pre-Christmas week. Karen (Eissa7)

    1. Thanks, Karen. Chilly is relative! When you're used to 80, 50 Will feel chilly. I was out in a sweatshirt tossing balls when it got up to 54 Monday afternoon.

54 is pretty warm for December in the Nebraska. Here's hoping for a calm and loving holiday season for you and yours.

  5. It sounds like you have had such a productive and cozy week! I love that you found a book that fits your holiday mood, there’s nothing like a Debbie Macomber story to settle into the season.

Good luck with the grooming and your eye appointment on the 23rd. That sounds like a big day of "maintenance" for both of you before the Christmas gathering!

Please stay safe and bundled up during that 4∘F cold snap. It sounds like the perfect excuse for more of those couch naps and Christmas movies.

    1. We've already had a milder interlude since that cold snap, and moving on to the next dip. Welcome to winter on the plains. Hope you are staying warm and cozy and enjoying the season!
