The toy "in jail"? It was just so cute, with the upside-down face looking like shifty eyes, if you don't realize that mid-forehead crease is in fact a smile, upside down.
This has been a week without much to "write home about". On Tuesday, Ember went to day care, and I worked out with the trainer.
On Wednesday I tried out some supposedly leak-proof undies. They weren't. They did not make it through a grocery run.
Ember joins the package in the x-pen!
It's has not been much of an eventful week.
On Sunday, Ember and I drove by the school where FGC was playing his basketball game. My son was subbing in as assistant coach, and the regular coach was under the weather, so the regular assistant was being coach. Also helps that the assistant coach is FGC's best buddy's dad, and the two dads get on well. We were a bit late arriving, and I didn't want to disrupt the event, so I did not go in, but it was a good outing for the pup.
MLK day (Monday) there was an "ICE Out" protest downtown at the State Capitol, but Ember and I did not venture out. Tuesday, she went to day care and I worked out with the trainer. Wednesday, we went to get groceries in the morning and took recycles to the bins at the high school in the afternoon. Just normal human errands, but my girlie likes to come along.
Thursday, she had day care again, and I did my usual house cleaning thing. And laundry.
When I went to pick Ember up at daycare, there was the cutest little terrier mix in for a health check. Older dog. According to the gent holding her leash, Piper was about to be up for adoption, as she had lost her family. She was so gentle, and loving, and pretty and soft. I let Ember touch noses and sniff with her as we were leaving, but I tell you, my heart wanted to scoop her up and bring her home. I did not do so, and probably have missed my opportunity to do so, because she's a real cutie, and I hope she finds a new fur-ever home quickly.
Imagine the photo of Ember above with a little white Westie mix about 1/4 her size...
Friday morning, I woke to temperatures below zero, Fahrenheit. Brrrr! But Ember and I went through our usual morning routine for the most part. It was Simparica Trio day for Ember. I had just done the flea treatment for Prisoner earlier in the week. We are hunkered down for the next couple of days, due to the cold weather!
We are having to reset when we get the cousins together for what was supposed to be Saturday's luncheon. Since I've already got the reservation made, we're swapping out to have DIL's mom come instead of my niece. No fun going out for ethnic food when your smell and taste are gone, per the niece, who just got home from a trip to find she had caught Covid-19, as had her roommate. "Le Sigh!"
Life is good. Keep on Sparking!

So sorry to hear the cousins lunch fell through.
ReplyDeleteHiding out indoors until I have to go to work again.

Now that sounds like a plan!
DeleteYup sounds like our week here too sans dog. Too cold for going out really and I am good with that. Got lots to read so all good here. Sorry to hear of the cousins lunch having to be put on hold due to covid. Have a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly, the cousins lunch is now back on! My niece contacted me this morning, and her taste and smell are back! So... Ember tucked in, and in an hour or so, I'll head out, bundled up, of course, because it's still nasty cold out. But the snow is not deep.
DeleteI will take a week w/o much to write home about.
ReplyDeleteThat ‘imprisoned’ toy is so cute! Hope Ember enjoys it.
Oh my, I hope that little terrier found a good forever home. I would not have been able to resist her, either. I bet Ember would be good with that little terrier. She seems like a gentle dog. BUT . . . lots to consider w/a 2nd dog, as you know!
We’re certainly hunkered down here, too, with polar temperatures.
Sorry your niece got Covid. It’s making the rounds, along w/the flu and broken bones w/this frigid weather! Bubble wrap, people! OY
Hugs and stay safe.

It was a lovely lunch gathering! My niece had let me know she was better enough to come: taste and smell came back! We went to a local Indian restaurant. Mulligatawny soup is spicy enough to really clear out the sinuses!
DeleteWe didn't get a whole lot of snow, and what we did get was "powder", so easy shoveling!
Meanwhile, hoping all in the path of the big storm stay safe and warm, and prayers for Minnesota!
A week with not much to write home about is often a good week; there's much to be said for an low-key enjoyable week.
ReplyDeleteToo funny about menacing toy face ... once I saw the happy face I could not see the menace. :D
While it's not a good thing that the leak-proof proved not to be ... it's a good heads up for me; I've thought about investing in a pair in case I need them anytime soon. Thankfully, I am leakproof still, but as Lynda says ... 'ya just never know.'
That little terrier would have been adorable for sure. It's always hard to say how well dogs will bond, but she and Ember may have entertained one another quite well. Not sure what the Prisoner would think. Maybe if she's still up for adoption when you go there again you will have had time for a bit of a think and will be happy with whatever your decision is.
Well, I've got to get done on the desk activities and up onto moving it again. Happy Saturday!
I know what you mean about "once you see it" not being able to see the alternative. I've seen a number of "optical puzzles" of that sort, where simply changing how you look at it flips it, and it stays flipped! Forever!
DeleteOf course I have no idea which agency will be holding the keys to Piper's adoption, and I'm already pretty much at peace with "what will be, will be", and hoping for the best for HER, because she's a cutie!
Happy Saturday!
Oh, what a week! Between the "leak-proof" laundry betrayal (truly, those ads should come with a disclaimer!) and the adorable image of a toy in jail, you’ve certainly kept busy despite the sub-zero temps. I’m honestly impressed you even made it to the grocery store in that weather—I probably would have just declared myself a permanent resident of my duvet until the thermometer hit double digits.
ReplyDeleteMy heart absolutely melted reading about Piper. It takes some serious self-discipline not to become a "two-dog household" on the spot when a gentle soul like that crosses your path! It sounds like Ember would have loved a little Westie sidekick, but I’m sure Piper will find a wonderful home soon with a face like that. Also, I’m sending a big "get well soon" to your niece; losing your sense of taste right before an ethnic food luncheon is a special kind of heartbreak. At least you still get a nice outing with the DIL’s mom—stay warm, keep Ember snuggled up. (((BIG HUGS)))
It turned out that it turned around and we had a full table with my niece, too! Her taste and smell came back and Indian food is great to clear out any "dregs" of respiratory stuff!
DeleteSunday we had -10F when I got up, so even colder. Brrrr! Hope you are indeed staying warm!
((( Big Hugs )))
I remember when you questioned your decision when you brough Rubia home. No regrets, right? Lots of loving memories there.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I'm ever practical, imagine your vet bills with a cat on the elderly side, an energetic LARGE dog and an elderly TINY dog.
As to those panties. I've been skeptical of the hype and question the laundering.
7-11 inches of snow predicted here. DH's snow plowing days are done so he will be here to run the snow blower. My MD told me if I can handle the pain, I can still shovel. Just. Don't. Fall.
My new parts were only ordered Thursday and aren't in yet. No sense in breaking a hip when waiting a week in safety will be a better fix.
He was incredulous that I was able to walk with hardly a limp, considering what this last set of x-rays showed.
I'm an Amazon, but we knew that ;-)
Yikes! 7 to 11 inches of snow? That's a lot. But then again, New Jersey does know how to handle it when they have to. However, delaying the surgery does sound like wisdom in action.
DeleteAnd yes, I am not surprised at your Amazon (not the Bezos kind) nature. We did know that!
Yes, I thought about those vet bills possibly increasing. Since I don't know the exact health picture of cute little Piper, that could be significant. I am foggy-brained about whether the gent said she was 13 or 16. Either way, smaller breed do live longer, and she could have several good years ahead of her with the right home. I'm thinking that this is not in my future, and it is easier to "let it go" the longer I wait.
