Researching before the Super Bowl

Friday evening, with a cough keeping me awake, I was bored.  That's my excuse.

Now let me explain.  I live in BIG Red Nebraska Husker Country.  This overlaps with KC Chiefs territory.  We have been watching commercials starring Patrick Mahomes and what's her name's boyfriend who catches his passes for a looooong time.

Taylor Swift... oh, yeah, I had heard "Shake it off" years ago, but confession, I'm a terrible music fan.  I can spot a song I like and not acknowledge the artist.  I know this is terrible, from a marketing perspective, but I've been this way since I couldn't tell you whether a song was performed by the Eagles or Queen...

Anyway, I kind of wrote off Taylor Swift as a "country" artist a long time ago, but I knew who Travis Kelce was.  And when they made a big deal of his mom rooting on BOTH her sons in the playoffs against one another a couple of years ago, that was interesting, too.  In other words, I'm more a football fan than a music fan.

Which is funny, because music plays in the background of everyone's life almost all the time!

In any case, in my bored state of mind, I started checking out YouTube videos and I discovered that the Kelce brothers host a podcast together!  And they are both articulate and say interesting things.  Kind of like their mother.  Being the mom of a son, I can certainly understand her influence in their lives.

So, having encountered this, suddenly my feed was filled with interviews of Taylor Swift, and clips of her songs, and started checking THOSE out.  Surprise!  This didn't exactly turn me into a "Swiftie", it did garner respect for the intelligence, drive, and talent that this woman who is younger than my son has demonstrated!  Of course her feminism vibed with my own youth.  In my youth our big issues were related to school dress codes.

In any case, I'm all researched up now, and ready for the Super Bowl and its commercials and other distractions.  I'll be sitting home with my cat and my hopefully a lessening of symptoms for the Puppy Bowl and the football game.

Here's wishing health and safety for all... whether you like or don't the music or the football of two grown people whose relationship is quite honestly nobody's business but their own.

Life is good.  Spark on!

  1. I love love and I’m rooting for love to win! Glad you had fun down that rabbit hole.
Please consider seeing a health care provider. A cough that keeps you awake can be sign of asthma, and there is help for that. Hugs and love, Ace

    1. Cluck, cluck... love ya, sweet mother hen, taking care of others even when you want to be in your cave!

If it persists beyond a day or two I will consider getting a test or two. But seriously? If it's just a passing symptom as part of the course of my body's reaction to a virus? I did eventually wear out my mind and fell asleep.

  2. I’m not a Swiftie, but I am a Chiefs fan (secondary to my Boyz, so whatcha gonna do?) - my amusing anecdote is the fact that Z met Patrick Mahomes at a frat party during his eventful freshman year at TT. “Mom, he’s HUGE!”
Gotta root for our Texas boy!

    1. Ah-hah! "Mom, he's HUGE!" reminds me of a story starring my own mom who met a basketball team and had no clue who they were, so was just having a normal conversation with them. They, in their turn, were fascinated to find this goofy lady who had no clue. Dad used to tell that tale, and it sure SOUNDS about right.

      Keep on rooting. Go Chiefs!

  3. We only went up to Lubbock for one football game, but we did get to see Mahomes performing their “Air Raid” offense; that was a beautiful evening as a thunderstorm was bearing down, but the clouds parted as it bypassed the stadium! Need to unearth those old photos…

    1. Awesome! Funny how these brushes with live games stay with us. I've only been to two major league baseball games in my life, but in ONE of them, I got to see Cal Ripken, Jr. swat a double, and that's stuck with me. Finding old photos can take some time, but it's worth it when you find it.

  4. Well, either way the Super Bowl goes, the Kelce brother's Mom is a winner! Awesome.

enjoy watching the Super Bow. Supposed to be a superb 1/2 time show w/Usher and Alesha Keyes.

    1. I have to admit I enjoy the commercials the most... I've been peeking at previews online and am looking forward to the full versions on game day. Arnold Schwarzenegger AND Tom Brady... humor in advertising! And a Budweiser Clydesdale hitch, too.

    1. Indeed... and to think we had 38 years of Super Bowls before anyone started the Puppy Bowls! LOL!πŸ•πŸˆ

  6. As the risk of being banned from here forever, I have always been a Raiders fan, all the way back to their Oakland days. After DH retired and we settled in Missouri, I would buy tickets to the games at Arrowhead anytime the Raiders played the Chiefs. I proudly wore my jersey, and of course our seats were next to each other. He would tell the fans seated around us that I was a stranger and he didn't know me.
Due to the reduced price, I bought tickets at the AFB not too far from us. The fans around us were fly boys, and it was all good natured fun.
These days, I'll catch the commercials on YouTube and watch a movie.

Enjoy the game! Hope you feel better soon. I agree with Mother Hen. To paraphrase Hamlet, get thee to a doctor-y. πŸ’ŠπŸ’‰

    1. Hey, one of the fun things about fandom is that we are united in rooting for our separate teams! And I have to admire good play when I see it, no matter what team executes it. It makes me sad when my team loses, of course, but I don't always blame the refs, sometimes we just get out-played. I'm hoping that won't be the case tomorrow.

  7. You know I'm not a football fan, but I'll be watching the commercials and the halftime show. I'm not a Taylor Swift fan, but I do respect her as a musician. Enjoy the game.

Have a wonderful weekend! (((BIG HUGS)))

  8. For the most part I am like you, I know the song but not who sang it. Enjoy the game, oh, and I got another of those mugs, this time for my sister's birthday. Think our family will all have one by the end of the year. ;)

  9. An unrelated comment:
I sent the 2nd grade valentine project to a friend who lives in Mississippi. She in turn sent the request to friends and family in Nevada, Texas, and Maine. She asked that they forward it, too.
I'm really interested to find out just how many Valentines from different parts of the US and abroad they received. Maybe, after Wednesday, the teacher will post something on Facebook, to which I am not a member.
    Thanks!!! πŸ’ŒπŸ’ŒπŸ’ŒπŸ’ŒπŸ’Œ

    1. After I got this 2nd grade class request, I was forwarded a request from a 4th grade class in Montana... apparently it's been spread all over!

Anyway, I'll keep an eye on the FB page and let y'all know if a count / spread is posted! I'm also curious!

  10. Second day of a dry, hacky cough here which I'm guessing is something that blew in with our wacky weather with multiple fronts.

Another tee shirt story: three years ago two friends and I bought sports tees for the 49-er's. This was not from a team allegiance but that we were each born in '49 and Aries is a fire sign (red). I've gotten lot of comments on it and when I explain the story behind my wearing it, people look at me like I'm from Mars.

    1. Sweetie, you would fit right in with my family, where my DIL picks teams based on if they have a Bird species as their mascot! And has no clue what cities they might be "attached" to.

I swear no one would look at you as though you were from Mars!

  12. I actually liked her more when she “was” a country singer, but I get the spillage into other genres; gotta get that money.
I guess Beyonce got the memo (finally) as she’s dipping into country, maybe to finally get “that” illusive Grammy🀷🏻‍♀️

    1. It's interesting, like I said, I'm a baaaad fan, often not even knowing who the artist is of a song I like. Since all this frou-frou began I've listened to a bit of Taylor's stuff on YouTube, and I have to admit my favorite is her SNL monologue, showing a great deal of intelligence and humor!
