Fallen branches

The gifts of nature return.  Tried to take a leash walk on Sunday and got distracted by a pile of fallen branches at the neighbor's house.  Neighbor said Ember was welcome to take one, and of course she planted herself mid-pile and chewed until mommy (that would be me) got impatient and "helped" her drag one all the way into our own backyard, behind the fence.

I then unclipped the leash and took myself inside, leaving Ember to do her own thing, and she managed to drag that branch through the yard across the patio and up the steps to the deck.  We went through a little education about how the branch is an outside toy, and the puppy may come inside but like the garden hose, the branch has to stay outside.

She's still working on it, Monday morning.

We learned that the soccer venue does not allow pets inside the park. We drove down to at least wave and say "hi" to the foster grandkid on his way to his game.  They were running late, so it was very brief hello / goodbye, have a great game.

Monday we got in two leash walks and a car ride.

Tuesday was Ember's Daycare day, and she was still working on that "branch sculpture".

Wednesday it is still there, but the branch is slowly shrinking as she chews it up.

Wednesday the new collar and ID arrived.  We're changing colors... in honor of the foster grand-kiddo, whose favorite color is yellow.  The bigger collar just pops against her dark fur.

We took a trip to the dog park Wednesday morning, and got a leash walk in the afternoon.

On the human front, an online article spooked me into attempting unsuccessfully to contact the Social Security administration, but I finally found the update on their website (could NOT get through on the phone, either local or national, they disconnected me without even offering the option to leave your name and number for a call back).

I clearly was not the only spooked client!  I did eventually find the information I was seeking on the website!  To wit:  If you are already receiving Social Security via direct deposit, you do NOT need to go to the office and verify your identity UNTIL you need to make a change.  That would be a change to your name, address, or bank deposit information.  If you need to make such a change, or if you are applying now, and not yet a current recipient, you will need to go to an office and verify your identity.  And to go into the office and be seen, you need to make an appointment, and the best way to make such an appointment is on the phone to the "local" office.  The rest of us should probably get off the line so that those who really do need to make an appointment can do so.

I swear some of the news outlets leave out the information that would help keep you calm and steady (and the phone lines working for those who really need them).  My father, who started his career as a newspaper man, would be spinning in his grave looking at how reporting is done these days.  News reports that are misleading, like the one that stirred me up, only make matters worse.  Written in the wrong order, the important stuff gets buried... and that is often the goal of online sources, to get you to click deeper in search of something so that they earn more ad revenue.  Sigh!

*** Vent done *** we now return you to Emberville!

Life is good.  Spark on!

  1. I know it is really tough to weed out the proper information because of the desire of the reporters to be dramatic and to wind people up. I usually check with my CBC feed here in Canada to make sure the story is completely out there and not just the sensational bits. We got lots of sticks on the ground here for Ember ;) The chocolate coloured puppy like Ember is still not really being trained properly and it's owner has an older gentleman walk him during the day, the puppy is yanking him all over and the gentleman just does not have the strength to pull him in. (I kinda want to kick the owner for being so neglectful) You and Ember have a wonderful day.

    1. You are pulling on the strings about that chocolate colored puppy. And the older man for that matter. Perhaps he doesn't know any better, how to train a puppy. It's not easy. I hope he figures it out.

As for the news I like to go to the source, which is why I was trying to contact social security to begin with. And it's also where I found the information I needed.

  2. For sure, Miss Lilly is distracted by the rabbits, birds, branches, leaves. LOVE the photo of Ember w/her prize branch. LOLOL

Hope the foster grandy’s team won the game!

LOVE Ember’s new yellow collar! Miss Lilly’s is yellow, too, but w/daisies on it, in honor of her little Sister, Miss Daisy! My bestie is Mom to Miss Daisy and they ( Miss lilly and Miss Daisy) were the last of that litter.

I know . . . so many (unnecessary) rule and regulations re: SS benefits. Makes it hard for those who cannot travel to an office to get things done. *SIGH* Glad you were able to get the information you needed. Just got my direct deposit yesterday into my acct. so was relieved about that.

I agree w/everything you’ve written about the media. It is ashame. Nobody does any real reporting anymore. It’s news READING – with the message slanted as they wish it to be.

HOPE that all is well in Emberville today! And hope she’s still having fun w/that stick.

    Hugs

    1. The flower sisters, canine edition. I can just imagine Miss Daisy and Miss Lilly and their bestie hu-moms on a walk.

Thursday was the comedy of rescheduling. My triathlete buddy and I touched base and figured out that I'm where I am and he's where he is and he comes to my town to swim every Monday and Wednesday. So I rescheduled the grooming appointment and the daycare from Monday to April 8th, so that Ember and I can meet my buddy for our first session on Monday.

I think she's going to be very happy. Happy fur friend, happy human.

  3. Wowser, that is one big free toy! :D Free is good.

I agree about the news reporting. I remember and would like a return to the time when 'they' told us what happened and did not try to tell us what to think about it, or intentionally rile people up. I don't bother watching television news anymore. I read BBC world news, European major news stories, and listen to top of the hour news stories on a believer radio station. The nice thing about the out-of-the-USA news outlets is, I am able to see what's going on here from their perspective and the similarity of various issues around the world. The short top of the hour stories generated from here let me hear 'just the facts' stories because they're limited for time.

    1. I remember my dad sharing some of the things he learned in journalism School, and it was all about just the facts and not drawing conclusions. He went on to write a comments column where he was writing some of his opinions, but he retained that sense of journalism being just the news.

  4. The stick are less expensive than ordering chew toys and seem to have a much longer life. Good exercise gathering all those sticks. ☺️

We started using SS online several years ago. When military pay went online, it was so much easier, and SS soon followed. I now subscribe to notifications both online and snail mail. On a related note, when Bob passed and we were making his arrangement, the funeral home totally took care of notifying SS.

    Enjoy the evening.

    1. Oh, yes, funeral homes do a lot for the grieving families. I'm a big believer in hospice services, too. While my mom was not in hospice for very long, it really helped my dad, who was clueless, to have those nurses coming in and giving practical physical assistance. Funeral home took care of notifications about my brother for his daughter, who was only 30-something when he passed... the insurance people, everyone who knew them really supported her, helping her know when to change things into her name, when to keep the old things in place for a transitional period of time, etc. For all we might make jokes about these things when we're young, when you are up against it, you really need that help!

I do everything that I can online, but some important notifications I have come both ways, "just because". I don't want to drown in paper, but I also don't want to miss something because my spam filter was being over-zealous!

Oh, and that stick... not just a chew toy, it's art!

Training day 2 and Gnawing day 11

I think Ember might have some beaver in her background.  Longest lasting toy we've had in a while!  And the cost was perfect! Wednesday ...
