The baby shrikes are here. I have at various times seen three baby bird heads poking out of the siding and had a great view of both parent birds feeding them. I'm just praying they don't break through the drywall into my bedroom, if you know what I mean. Once I stopped worrying about it so much, I've rather enjoyed watching mother nature invading!
Ember has been fascinated, especially since some of what mama and papa bird bring to the babies gets dropped from the "high chair" and she picks it up off the patio below. Berries! Ember loves berries!
We are now at the start of a heat wave here, so Friday morning I took Ember out for her leash walk early. It's predicted to break into triple digits (F, that is) Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, all three.
Friday evening, we have a family outing booked at the minor league baseball game, with predicted temperatures of 95F! Taking empty plastic bottle to refill with water as many times as needed.
Across town the roof replacement project on the kids' house has taken all week. We had a couple of rain days. It was supposed to happen a week ago, but one of the work crew had a death in the family, so that delayed things, and then the rains came.
Ember's "hunting dog coach" is currently in Spain for the world multisport event. He posted some lovely photos of where he got lost (off course) looking for "the big hill" he knew was on the route of one of his bike legs. Looks like he's having a marvelous time, and his buddies are trying to talk him into going for election to the board of USAT. I'm no longer a member, so can't nominate him, but I think he'd be a great candidate, honestly.
Life is good. Still avoiding the news. Spark on!
Glad that Ember is enjoying the "fruits" of the shrikes labors!
ReplyDeleteStay cool in that heat @ the game. Lots and lots of water, for sure.
Good luck to Ember's coach!
Hot and humid here, too. Indoors mostly, except to walk Miss Lilly.

It was a comedy of excess at the ballgame. DIL's parents bought water and hot dogs. DS bought extra hot dogs and water for all. No one was underfed or under watered!
DeleteHoping your appliance woes have been resolved! And Miss Lilly is surviving the heat, too.
LOL! Well glad everyone was fed and watered!
DeleteYes, ended up buying a new washer today. The cost -- just for the replacement parts for the washer was $550. That doesn't account for time and labor. Sooooo . . . kinda foolish to put a lot of $$ into a (by today's standards) old machind (it's 8 yrs. old --heck, my parents had a washer/drier that lasted 40 yrs. Not anymore!)

It's really astounding how few years a "modern" appliance lasts, but then again, given how much computing tech goes into them and the development cycles of the generations... I should NOT be surprised at all. I swap out computers every few years, we swap out cell phones every 2-3 years... washing machines, cars, even 'fridges and stoves have similar chips and programming these days. They don't build them for 30 years... but I'm on year 26 of my washer/dryer at this point. I just replaced the stove (40), fridge (25), and dishwasher (22) last November. Oh well, oh well, right?
DeletePredatory little birds. Vlad the Impaler had nothing on the them.
ReplyDeleteSounds like the heat wave and advisories are going to be here for a while. Stay hydrated! Stay safe! 💖🤗
Yes, high Summer has arrived, hasn't it?
DeleteWe are heading to the upper temps too and are very happy we had the A/C put in the window, I worry about hubby finding lifting that thing too much but so far so good. Keep cool and huge hugs.
ReplyDeleteEmber didn't want much to do with "outside" on Friday after our morning walk. It was beastly. But with the breeze, it wasn't bad at the ballgame Friday evening. However, out of safety concerns, they did cancel the fireworks. Smart decision; it was gusty!
