Today I am thankful for cousins and nieces and nephews a generation or more younger than I am. I am delighted that they are still OK being Facebook friends with me, and when they introduce me to the current "things" in their lives.
For example, a young cousin of mine mentioned her fondness for pumpkin chai from my favorite coffee place. I had just discovered pumpkin lattes this year, and had no idea there was such a thing as a pumpkin spiced chai! I've been drinking them as my "special" drink after dog walks ever since. A niece taught me how "chai" was pronounced, a few years back, but it was some time before I actually tried it!
It was another young cousin who invited me to run the Gasparilla half marathon more than a decade ago, that kept me training for an extra year.
Minor things, to be sure, but it's the minor things that bring much joy into life, proving that even seven decades into life, one can discover new joys.
