Monday Ember ripped the shell of the sleeve of my old Winter coat, and de-stuffed the quilted insulation.
This was the old coat, the one I ordered a new one to replace last year. Or maybe it was the year before. I started wearing this one again when Ember showed interest in biting the "new" one. I figured if it did go the way of the sweatshirts she ripped, better the old one than the newer one. But they are both that puffy quilted material so both can be easily ripped if she goes "off the rails".
I have ordered one that is NOT quilted and filled. It looks to be much more dog-teeth proof. All I have to do now is survive for however long it takes to ship the new one. There are some cold days predicted in that anticipated time frame. The new one has a detachable hood, a feature the one she destroyed does not have.I was trying to be patient about the estimate from the handyman service! I called to check on it Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. and turns out there was an e-mail system glitch. She re-sent the estimate, I approved it, and now we are waiting on scheduling with the handyman himself.
During Monday's puppy nap #1, I wrapped the books for the Foster Kiddo for Christmas. I messaged my daughter in law to ask if I should drop them off early, due to the fluid nature of family reunification because I want to make sure he gets them. We will work in a family Christmas with him.
Tuesday... 15 days to Christmas
Workout with the trainer Tuesday morning. Always feels like a victory when that's been done! Their heating system has been fixed now, thank goodness.
Family holiday plans are shaping up. Looks as though we'll try to do the gift exchange on Sunday the 15th. The pasta dinner is still planned for Christmas day, but we don't know if the Foster Kiddo will be there and if so, what time frame.
The temperatures have dropped, as predicted and the weatherman is talking about possible snow flurries this evening!
I gave Ember one of her Christmas presents early. You should have seen the tail wag when she discovered that the pink (new) pig grunts. The yellow one is the old one that lost its grunter. I did get it to grunt one last time this morning... nothing since.
Life is good. Spark on!
Yikes!! Too bad you can't get a 'coyote' coat like they have for dogs, only made for a people ... they have the defensive spikes to deter attackers. Are you able to release her alone into the backyard as you throw a toy/toys out that she loves to pounce on and play alone with so she can work off some of her zoomie/biteys for a few minutes?
ReplyDeleteIt is difficult with foster children and for foster children; not knowing how long they'll be with you, how it might or might not work returning to their birth parents. It's hard on the heart. And sometimes they are bounced around quite a bit, with not all foster homes being loving. But thank goodness this young boy was placed with your children ... even if for just a little bit that loving will remain with him.
Ember is not much of one to want to be alone in the yard. At 10 months, she is puppy enough to want hu-mom right there with her. We do some glow in the dark fetch in the morning to work off some of her springs, and we're working on our tug skills. She really is better than she was just a couple short months ago, able to inhibit most biting. Puppies!
DeleteThis whole foster care adventure has been an education for us all. And I'm already feeling grief in advance when time comes for him to leave the shelter of this home, temporary though we might have always known it would be. It's easy to bond with a child!
Glad Ember is getting you a new coat. YOU deserve to be warm, too.
ReplyDeleteHOPE things go well on the 15th and that you can give the books to the foster GS yourself.

Ember was on best behavior today, as was I. We made it through to crate time after supper!
DeleteThat's for the good wishes for the family gathering on the 15th. One way or another, he'll get his gifts, and I do hope to be there when he does. It will be fun to see his reaction to the various offerings.
Maybe a patch job for the old coat and save the new one for doggie free times.
ReplyDeleteThe weather people here are predicting flurries for the morning. "Just a dusting" resulted in 6 plus inches. A prediction of flurries is down right scary.
Have a merry time with the gift exchange. 🎁🎅🏼
I put a compression sleeve over the top of that coat arm for today. The new coat is advertised as arriving tomorrow, but I'm not counting chickens until it lands on the porch!
DeleteWe have flurries possible in our forecast, too.
Well, better the coat than closer to your skin and at least the old coat. As well as work scheduled, sounds like a good day all around, even with an outlay of money which is always tough. Have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteAmen to that. I am trying to preserve the so-called new coat, by purchasing an even newer one. That way I have one for human only countings.
