The walk before the coat ripping incident, Ember had picked up something from under the leaves in a vacant lot... well, a greenspace, really. When I heard it snap, I started to investigate. That doesn't look like a twig, Ember!
It was not. It was a pair of eyeglasses. Hidden under the leaves, obviously lost by someone. They were mangled pretty badly by the time I rescued them from her jaws.
On a wing and a prayer, I posted that I had found them on the Nextdoor app, and surprisingly, got a bite from someone who gave me a name of someone who had recently posted losing his glasses, within a couple of blocks of where Ember found these.
Long and little of it is miraculously, I connected with the fellow, and he identified these as his. I will leave them on the front door Wednesday morning for his wife to collect. I doubt if there is anything there to salvage, but I'll let them determine that. If not, at least they know someone cared enough to respond and own up.Just saw on the doorbell cam that she has collected them. Yay!
Wednesday morning so far I have had to replace lightbulbs in the overhead fixture at the top of the stairs, and I've had to vacuum up the X-Pen. The second lightbulb in the fixture just burnt out. I had been dragging my feet about replacing the first, so now it was total darkness. All fixed.
As for the X-Pen? I had given Ember her old bunny to play with, the one that came with her when she was delivered to my house last Easter.
Today (Wednesday) the bunny died. It would have been OK if the bunny were just fabric and a squeaker, but it turns out those little paws had bags of tiny plastic beads in them. The beads from the first one Ember chewed on spilled out onto the carpet, and caused a human scurrying because we don't want to emulate the other Barb's dog, Miss Lilly, who had a trip to the vet following ingesting something plastic that got stuck in her small intestine.
Now I know Ember has got a pretty robust elimination system, BUT, no sense taking chances that can be avoided. So, into the crate she went while her hu-mom hauled out the vacuum and played "cleanup on aisle X-Pen".
There was a dusting of snow on the deck when we arose. Ember did another round of zoomies when I tossed a ball that was frosty. I think she gets startled by how cold it is in her mouth, and then... zoom!
We did have another "let's swipe mom's hat" brief game, but she gave it back so we could go outside. I'm working on "thank you" as her release word. It's slow learning, but my gut says we are making some progress. When she takes her empty food bowl, for example, and Mom has to take it to wash up. And when she takes my hat or a glove. We use "thank you" when she tires of a tug toy, too. Bit by bit!
And to finish with eyeglasses (where we started), I'm about to go pick up my own new pair. Got the text from the eye doctor's office yesterday, but by the time I was free to go do anything about it, it was closing time for them. I'm hoping this will clear things up considerably!
Life is good. Keep Sparking!
Maybe they can be used for insurance purposes. You are a good neighbor. New glasses after cataract surgery can make the world seem brighter. May your world be brighter.
ReplyDeleteMy doorbell camera captured his wife shaking her head as she left with the baggie holding the remains. Yeah, I'm hoping at least if they have the kind of insurance that covers "no questions asked" this might help.
DeleteWell nice of you to post that you found the glasses wo the owners could identify then, collect them and determine what their next step is. Yes, YOU cared enough to follow through. That’s awesome. Not everyone is like that, for sure.
ReplyDeleteNOOooooo! Glad you got those beads. DEFINITELY don’t want her to undergo surgery like Miss Lilly. NOT good. You just can’t judge by the size of something if it will cause a blockage. The problem object that Miss Lilly swallowed was very tiny.
Hope your new glasses are perfect!

New glasses have those huge lenses, like we used to wear when I was much younger. I think I've had every size/shape of eyewear, but the most important look is the one from the inside, right?
DeleteI always wish that they didn't put those kind of surprises in pet toys. Don't they realize that pets should not have plastic stuff and they will rip up toys eventually. Glad to hear you got it all up. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI agree. They all put the standard warning on that you should not let your pet play with it unsupervised, but it isn't a very specific warning, now, is it?
DeleteIt was a relief to get that chore done with not much resistance from the pooch. Whew!
