Today I am thankful for my upbringing. My thoughts turn this way because it's close to Yahrzeit for my dad. He shaped a lot of my thinking and attitudes.
I am thankful for instructions. Wherever I can find them: on paper, on line, or stuck to the appliances they teach one about.
Recent example: my automatic sprinkler controls. The electrician that was here on Thursday tripped the power off, which reset all the clocks in the house, including the one that drives the sprinklers.
It took me three days before I figured out everything that was going on with those sprinklers. I got it all sorted in the end. I am glad that these instructions are on the door of the control box, and they are written in words, not those international symbols that so confuse me!
I am thankful for helps that enable me to figure stuff out on my own! I
Our upbringing was certainly different from today and I am grateful for that too. I love to be able to figure stuff out too. Have a wonderful Sunday.
ReplyDeleteSeems to me every generation's version of an upbringing is slightly different. Technology changes all sorts of things, from how we obtain our food to how we build our shelter, how we learn, etc. But basic human relations, how to get along compromise and make peace with those around us still boils down to being kind. And however we learn being kind it's what we want to pass on to generations to come.
DeleteMy dad shaped me as well, perhaps more when my mom had gone we shared so much time together. Hmmm.
ReplyDeleteI've got pieces of paper to describe resetting of things. Perhaps I should spend time and neaten them up!
Little pieces of paper... oh, does that ever echo.
DeleteNice photo of your dad and blessings on his Jahrzeit.
ReplyDeleteOh for sure, grateful for instructions! DH always gets to a point of frustration, THEN reaches for the manual. I cut to the chase and just read it. LOL
Rainy, cool and very “autumn-y” Ah well, will maybe see a bit of a warm up on Tuesday.
Both my parents shaped my thinking and glad of that. They were great examples of treating others as you want to be treated! Always.
Hugs and blessings

The more we try to pass lessons along, the more we appreciate that our own parents and grandparents did so!
DeleteThat's such a thoughtful reflection, especially as you remember your dad around the time of his Yahrzeit. It sounds like he gave you a wonderful foundation for life.
ReplyDeleteAnd what a great parallel between the shaping your dad did and the importance of those clear instructions! It's so frustrating when things reset, but it's a huge relief when the help you need is right there, written in plain language.
Glad you got those sprinklers sorted out in the end! Finding the information you need to figure things out on your own really is something to be thankful for.(((BIG HUGS)))
((( Big hugs ))) back at you! I know how much you appreciate your own parents' influence... they have enriched your life, for sure!
