Thanksgiving Season - Week 2 October 20 - 26

 Tuesday, October 21, 2025 (Day 9)

I already wrote Monday's before I posted the "week" title, so starting the week label with the second day of the week.

Today I am thankful for the health of my body.  At a month shy of 73 trips 'round the sun, it still serves me pretty well.  I am thankful for the concept and recognition of the phrase "for your age".  Priorities change over time, as we mature.

I am thankful for the medical technology of cataract surgery, and that this has enabled me to still see, and drive, do my own shopping, and in general live independently.  Given that while I no longer run half marathons or participate in triathlon, I am grateful my body let me do it as recently as seven years ago.

Diamond, 1996 - 2013

The fact that my body serves me well "for my age" gave me the courage to adopt a puppy in 2024.

The fact that my body does well "for my age" gives me the freedom to get to know my foster grand child.

Ember, 2024 - present day

Today I am thankful that I can keep up with my current dog and walk her usual route of about a mile and a quarter.  Twenty years ago, the dog I walked had a usual route of 2.6 miles.

Feeling blessed, indeed.

  1. Yup, I am liking my body for my age and mine is turning 68 on Saturday. Diamond was sure a beautiful dog too as is Ember. Have a wonderful day!

    1. It's easy to take some of these things for granted, isn't it? This time of year, and this exercise brings out the consciousness of blessings that have slipped into that state.

  2. Oh yes, definitely priorities change as we mature! And that’s a good thing. And it makes us more grateful for our health!

I am certainly grateful to be able to drive again and become more independent! Makes you realize how much we really do when we can’t and for sure, makes us humble so we accept the help we need. THAT is not easy. Humility is a true blessing as we age!

Oh, how much our fur babies have to teach us, right! About persevering, not giving up, and giving and receiving of love! And they DO keep us moving and grooving!

My goodness, yes, it is WONDERFUL that you are able to participate in your FGS’s life. I am sure it as enriching for you as it is for him.

    Hugs and blessings and gratitude

    1. Amen to all of that! My FGC is not only a trauma survivor but also faces the challenges of being a minority and big for his age. It was so amusing Sunday when he said to his dad (my son) that he thought he'd done well that day. My son (the therapist) responded, "Your self-assessment is accurate." I cracked up when my DIL shared that bit with the family chat, because it sounds so like both my son, and my brother (whom you may remember as MOBYCARP from Spark).

Calm, matter of fact, logical, gentle... a loveable model of manhood, which is so good for a kid to have in his life.
