Feeling like myself again

It's Tuesday, the day after birthday, the second day of my next year breathing on the planet.  I was well enough to go workout with the trainer this morning, but tired afterwards.

I clipped this photo of Carl and me from a video my DIL took on Sunday during our outing at the park.  Carl has become very skillful at avoiding knocking humans off their pins.  We brace ourselves, just in case.  He somehow manages to dodge and weave around us.  What a joyful outing that was.

Monday, my actual birthday, was graced by many, many online greetings from friends gathered over a lifetime.  From family, of course, but also from former school mates, co-workers from various jobs, and the "invisible friends" gathered over the Spark years, plus some in-person running / triathlon friends, several friends gathered over my son's service years via the Yellow Ribbon events the Army Reserve put on, and a smattering of "son #2" friends of my son.  The whole exercise of social communications reinforces what a rich tapestry a life spread over decades can be.

Tuesday afternoon I did a Kevin memorial viewing of one of our favorite movies when we were young:  "What's up, Doc?" starring Ryan O'Neal and Barbra (who always spelled it wrong and ruined life for those of us who spell it right) Streisand.  It came out in 1972, which was while Kevin was still in high school, and a year after "Love Story".  It has so much slap stick, mistaken identity, mis-direction... it's funny!

So while watching this, the phone rang, and my calendar continues to fill.  My elder sister has medicalizing coming up.  Her other cataract is "ripe", and she needs a driver/watcher in mid-December.  That would be me.  Extra ears for the doctors.

And then she has another medical thing in January, then my own medicalizing will kick in, after that.  Welcome to "senior" life, eh?

Life, even "senior" life, is good.  Keep on Sparking!

  1. Glad you had a good birthday! Sounds like you had a good birthday!

Yes, for sure Barbra ruined it for us BARBS! OY. But that movie, What’s Up, Doc, was definitely god.

Good luck to your sis and glad you can help her out.

Oh Senior life is crowded w/medicalizing. I know . . the beginning of a new year is always a new round of medicalizing again. I never knew how my parents stayed so busy in retirement and NOW I understand. LOL

The good of it all is, we are taking care of ourselves!

    Hugs
Barb (and that’s not spelled Barbra!)

    1. LOL... parents busy in retirement reminds me how my dad used to say he wondered how he ever had time to work! Nowadays I'm so glad I don't have that full-time job to fit in to the schedule.

And you are so right... it all boils down to it being good to take care of ourselves. (( hugs & Thanksgiving love to you and your whole family ))

  2. Happy that you had a good birthday.

You know I've never seen that movie? I'm going to have to put it on my list. Yes, I always forget she spells it wrong.

That's nice that you're able to help your sister out. Yes, my mom says the only social life she has is going to the doctor's appointment.

Have a wonderful day! (((BIG HUGS)))

    1. LOL... yes, she spells it "uniquely", and because she was famous, everybody who *is not* named Barbara started writing our names down "wrong".

As we age, having a trusted sister to go to those appointments with us is a blessing. She helps me out, I help her out, and nobody feels like we're burdening the other!

Have a great day, and holiday, and (( extra big hugs )) for you and your mom! Happy Thanksgiving!

  3. A birthday card party reminds one just how many lives are connected to ours. A wonderful day for you.

It's wonderful that you are on the road to recovery and can help your sister with her medical needs.

    Happy Turkey Day tomorrow! πŸ¦ƒπŸ—πŸ€—πŸ’•

    1. And a Happy Turkey day to you as well. "Lives connected to ours" is a good way to put it. We touch lives and they touch ours, and often we never know, unless there's a common link.

I found out earlier this week that one of the gals whose dog I met while my brickwork was being done in September? Is a designer where my DIL works! She figured out it was me because of my grand-dog's name and the reason he has that name. Life is made up of these kinds of connections.

    1. Thanks! And may you have a blessed Thanksgiving holiday. Thinking of your friend Ruth and how your life and hers have intersected over the years.

    2. Thanks! She left this world Thursday morning. Her kids came over today and everyone is of the same mind. She enjoyed life to the fullest, got to see those she loved on her 100th birthday this summer. It doesn't get much better than that!!!

  5. What a wonderful birthday outing!
Not a fan of all the doctors and aging...still in the childhood-taught denial thinking I don’t need doctors (but than I remember Sudafed, hearing aids, albuterol....sigh).
And then there are those of us who constantly spell it Barbara Streisand, so there’s some revenge for you, lol.

    1. LOL! You only mis-spell HER name if you know someone with MINE! I am honored! It's funny how attached we become to our names. Enjoy your holiday break from the routine of work! And pace yourself so that you can soak up and enjoy all the love!

    1. πŸ˜† It was Joe Biden's birthday. Queen Elizabeth II's Wedding anniversary. We have to share dates! My brain loses birthdays regularly, so... can't fault someone for missing mine!
