I shall leave the Springtime aroma of hot asphalt being applied during "road repair season" to your no doubt capable imagination. Sometimes it is a blessing that we don't transmit odors electronically!
Arrival was about the same time, 9 a.m. on Tuesday. They did finish the work directly at the base of the driveway, but ran out of asphalt before they finished the second spot South of the mailbox.
Looks nice.
Not quite done. They still have the street coned off for now, and at ten to three, have come back from wherever they went in between.
Monday afternoon late the e-mail from the landscape company arrived. I cringed at the bottom line, slept on it, and on Tuesday morning called them and booked the job. Still don't know when it will be scheduled, but he said I was on the list for early in the season. That will be nice.
Elements involved: Sod, border wall, river rock, sand for the sandbox, pavers for where I put my hoses. Labor and equipment charges, of course. Oh, well, I was told to spend my "extra" money by my financial guy last year... I did some of that with the brick mason last year. This is a bigger project for 2024.
I'm still holding off on the inside work because I can't make up my mind what project(s) to take on or in what order. But at least having committed to this large expense has put the "wanna puppy" urges to rest for now. One project at a time!
Life is good. Spark on!
Good for you getting things done. Same here.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy my grand dogs so have lost the urge. Like my friend said, we are getting to the ages that the dogs may outlive us. We have to add them to our wills, and do we have family who might want to care for them?
Yep! I asked my son about my being able to handle raising a puppy, and he responded, "Well, it would be a good excuse for me to get a second dog..." meaning inferred that when I keel over, said puppy would need a new home.
DeleteHope things are well in your neck of the woods.
There's something to be said for the fact that they didn't wait a couple of weeks to return. Poor planning to run out of materials. Poor math skills for figuring square yds? Sorry. That's the retired teacher who knows not how to stay quiet.
ReplyDeleteYour new landscape sounds gorgeous. I'm supposed to have a guy coming this weekend to check out what needs to be done here and give me an estimate. π€πΌπ€πΌπ€πΌ
May the wafting odor of hot asphalt soon be replaced with the sweet smells of spring. πͺ»π·πΌπ»πΊ

Turns out that after I posted the blog, the dude came to the door and explained that they didn't "run out", they had only planned to fill the first patch, so had extra, and decided to go ahead and use it on the second one. A third patch is planned for around the corner. They haven't dug that one out yet. That will be Wednesday's project for them. Gee, it might have been nice to have the whole agenda before they started (imho).
DeleteHope you get some good Spring weather here... they are telling us we'll have a cold snap Monday/Tuesday, compared to now. So I'm glad they are getting the street repairs done now.
As here, I wonder how long the patch job will last and when they will have to do it all over again. Patches never seem to last here at all and before we know it there is a crew doing the same job. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteThat's always the question, isn't it? I swear my recurring pot holes are related to the number of different garbage collection services that come into the neighborhood... so that we have heavy trucks just about every morning, from one firm or another. Once upon a time the garbage services had an agreement to serve "monopoly style" so that there was a territory served by each firm, and trucks only trundled through a couple of days a week.
DeleteThey are doing this particular repair as a larger job this year, so I'm hoping it will last longer than the usual small patches they have done in years past.
Hope your day is a good one!
Oh yes, the smell of ashphalt. A smell you don’t forget!
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine the $$$$ for the project. We have a similar situation w/landscaping and need to get on it.
Homeownership = endless opportunities to spend, right!?!
Hope all goes well.

I totally agree with that description of home ownership. Renting is not much fun as you are dependent on a landlord to fulfil the maintenance aspect on their investment property, but when you buy the house, suddenly YOU are responsible for fixing whatever breaks. Or, in my case, paying to have somebody else fix it.
DeleteLandscaping is kind of like frosting on the cake of home maintenance, but I'm dreaming and hoping it turns out as nice as I'm imagining!
Hugs back at you!

ReplyDeleteOngoing projects here in the yard, garage and inside the house that have a lot of "stuff" moving around and out which is finally starting to look like organized adults live here! Very glad the third person we hired took cleaning up the flower beds, trimming trees and planting as serious as I would if I was able to still do that.
Many years ago, a coworker referred to the maintenance of a home and all that it takes as "the joy of ho-MOAN-ership"
Providing for the pets really came forward last year when spouse & I & dog Bailey were all diagnosed with cancer the same week in April. After Bailey passed on, we were firmly convinced that it wouldn't be fair to take on another dog at 75. No takers in the family for KC the Sunshine Dog and spouse not wanting to make plans. We have several small dog rescue/adoption groups in the area, one that specializes in rehoming Maltipoo's.
Wonder what Prisoner would think of the puppy idea! Perhaps jealous of Mom's attention being divided.
Hope you get some strong breezed to help with the asphalt odors.
You and your DH and Bailey certainly went through a lot of drama in the past year. So sorry that Bailey is gone, but I do understand the "at my age" argument for not taking on another dog. I get the emotional pull, but generally common sense yanks me back from the edge.
DeleteI'm not sure what The Prisoner would think. He might be fine with an animated "cat toy" be it kitten or puppy. He seems to want a lot of attention from me since Rubia passed on. But they did entertain one another.
LOL at ho-MOAN-ership... sure seems that way at times!
Today (Wednesday) the road workers are not only around the corner but half a block up the hill, so yes, the asphalt odors are pretty much taken care of!
Here's wishes for health, comfort, and happiness for your hearth and home!
I am adopting ho-MOAN-ership π into my vocabulary - thank you, Jeanne!
ReplyDeleteBarb, so good to see you yesterday for our walk ❤️ Love, Ace π€
It's always a great part of my week, the sister-walk!
DeleteI’ve had a worker making all the noises a worker makes, while working on the upstairs apartment bathroom, since last Monday. Last Weds the “tar guy” was making a fresh batch outside and the wind was blowing the smell in my direction. I asked him how long it would smell and he said it only smells when it’s wet. Who knew?

I sure didn't know! But it makes sense now that you wrote it down. I mean if it kept on smelling once it cooled off, the whole city would reek all the time.
