Season of Thanksgiving Gratitude: Day 41

 Saturday, November 22, 2025

Today I am thankful for long-term weather forecasts.  I can now begin bracing myself for a "colder than normal" December!  Seriously, being able to look ahead for a week to ten days and pick a day to plan outdoor things or even things that I need to load up the car and drive to "this time of year" is very welcome.

OK, they aren't always right about it, but more often than not they are.  I'm a weather wimp.

Oh, and thankful that "the kids" think to ask what kind of birthday celebration I want to have, and I get the classic "trip to the dog park" whenever the weather cooperates on my birthday weekend.  So today is the day.  Ember and Carl can help celebrate.

  1. Yes, it is nice that they can work out the long range weather. We tend to miss the worse in our location but knowing what is coming is nice.

    1. It is pretty amazing how computing power added to human knowledge and analysis can help solve "big system" patterns, from medical to meteorological to logistical. What an age we live in!

  2. I can take the cold, but the snow and ice has me a little concerned! But one day @ a time. Given the gov’t cuts, it is wonderful we still have long range forecasts.

So nice that your kids are already planning for your birthday! Awesome. Hope the weather is cooperative.

    1. It turned out to be a gorgeous afternoon to be outside, and the dogs had a wonderful romp, as did the humans with them. My son's FIL skipped out, he'd just been through a hospital stay and is still having after care appointments, so he decided this would be a bit much for himself.

  3. If I had trusted the weather forecasts, I wouldn't have gotten my "fix" in the form of a horseback ride last Sunday... It was originally forecasted to rain all weekend, but as it turned out, sunny skies prevailed & the cloudy gloomy weather didn't roll in until Monday...

    1. The "long term" helps us plan, but you have to take advantage of the short term forecasts, too, that tell you it's two hours before the 20% chance of precipitation... Chilly mornings gave way to sunny "warmer than seasonal average" afternoons for our weekend, and we got out and enjoyed!
