Back on Spark!

We have really enjoyed the cooler morning walks the past four days.  Ember has taken me round several different loops in the neighborhood.  We have showed off our good manners in giving other dogs and people room, and for the most part avoiding the worst of our enthusiastic greetings, thanks to a mom braced for it and watching the signs.  And holding tight to the leash those few times.

We went nose to nose in greeting with a rescue puppy, 3 months old, saved from Texas by the Beatrice, NE humane society, and adopted by a neighbor.  So cute.  So smart.  We ended the greeting about the time Ember went into a total tail wagging play bow, and I'm sure they would have enjoyed playing, but on the leash is NOT the time for that kind of play.  Gradually, my girl has learned to accept this, but I still have to be watchful.

Besides, a 3-month-old puppy is already a handful for my neighbor, she doesn't need my girl regressing and teaching bad habits to the new puppy when her hu-mom is doing so well!

I got into the new SparkPeople.  Wow!  Have to get myself to bed now, but I can feel the old pull.  It's been rearranged a bit, but I've already found Gloria from the FB group (I think she might be Canadian?)

Tuesday morning, I slept until after 5.  Ember was probably frustrated with me as I was paying attention to Spark stuff, trying to learn my way around the new AI-driven platform before she went to day care.  If anybody wants an invite, I have them.  If I have your e-mail I can send it directly.  I know at least a couple of you are already on it, and I've already put up my first blog over there.  I am now using OKM, instead of the longer version, as my display name.

Ember is now off to day care and I have to avoid getting sucked into an online black hole, because household tasks need attention while she's gone!

I survived my first day on the new Spark, have found a few folks that were in various "life raft" communities, and am slowly re-connecting over there.  I have discovered that international users ARE on the new Spark.  Canadian and UK users located so far.  I figured out what passes for a SparkPage (my Spark) and joined a few user groups, including Sparking with Dogs!

I'll keep on blogging here for a while, just to leave the breadcrumbs if I shift over there.  Also, my Archives from SparkPeople 1.0 of selected saved blogs live on this account.

Life is good.  Spark on!

  1. There's a Spark Team of us former members. First thing I noticed was I was wasting a lot of time looking. Maybe not a good thing.

    1. I think you got on in one of the earlier waves, and I joined on about the third wave maybe? I'm gradually looking my way around, sent you a friend request. It's still invite only, one friend at a time to even get signed up. But as more and more of us do sign up it's exponential
Everyone is given 20 invites to send out. I have sent out I think four
But the Facebook group has a whole bunch of people who are offering all their 20 to anybody who sends them their email address. I don't want to waste an invite on somebody who got invite from somebody else. That might deprive somebody else who hasn't got one yet. Plus not everybody wants to be a beta tester.

    2. There are twice as many "old" members as there were last month. I find the food tracker to be less easily filled and detailed as (free)Chronometer. I realize SP2 will bone-up as it gets used, as did Chr. I'm still shoulder shrugging as I'm not sure I can afford the "social time" SP2 is bound to draw.

    3. I totally understand about that social time. This is a time of transition all over again. Spark has been gone for 5 years, and a lot of people have got used to different tools. What we misses the time of community. I don't know if we'll ever get it back, at least not the way it was.

  2. Good to know that SparkPeople is back and that people are able to reconnect. My dear friend from back then was Nims and since the closure she past away suddenly. I am still not sure I wish to pick it back up as all things I sent in place when they folded before have been working super well for me. I think, for me, it would feel like stepping backward and so I will think on it and let you know if I would like an invite. Thanks so much for posting the link. Huge hugs

    1. Good that you have retained what you learned on Spark, and that it's working in your life! Moving on to the next chapter works well for many. Me? I like the structure and context that blend on a unified site like SparkPeople, and I'm kind of energized (in a professional way) to play with the AI.

Laughing at myself... I bought a Furby back in the day to analyze "how" it learned to talk. That's the professional curiosity thing going!

I really haven't blogged much about nutrition and fitness over here, it's been mainly daily life and how it's going. Spark gives me a platform to encourage others who may still be at earlier phases of their journey. I'm a cheerleader at heart, I guess!

  3. Hi Barb….I also joined the “new” Spark…it will be interesting to see how it evolves! I actually have been doing well with healthy eating and walking my usual 4 miles per morning for over a year! I joined WW and managed to kick 25 lbs to the curb and leave them there….so, I am in maintenance mode, I guess. That program works for me….but I’d like to reconnect with former Sparkers, as well!
I always enjoy your blogs…that Ember is an energetic beauty and The Prisoner, a faithful old companion! Glad that you are enjoying life with your FGS, son, daughter-in-law and assorted other family members!
    Hugs, Karen (Eissa7)

    1. Time will tell, who goes back who stays away..
It's kind of like graduation from school of some level or other, people do move on. Some go to the reunions and some don't.

  4. Yeah, Ember. You used your good behavior and made your Mom happy!

I am on SP2 as Barb. Learning my way around the site, too. But have to be careful not to spend TOO much time.

Rainy here, so getting Miss Lilly out between the rain drops.

Hope Ember has a good day care time!

    1. Found you! Totally understand the time budgeting. I struggle with that too.

  5. Thanks for the heads up about SparkPeople2. I put in my wait list request and rejoined.

The non-Spark news

Somebody feels totally safe! Ember was deprived of her leash walk on Wednesday because of her hu-mom feeling her age.  I woke with a screami...
