The end of the visit

Carl is so glad his Daddy came back to get him!  Snuggles on the couch with "his person"!

This one was taken while Carl's Mommy was taking her parents home, letting me have some son-time without a crowd around.  He was kind of in a quiet frame of mind, and clearly tired.  Praying for my son's peace of mind, with the world in its dumpster-fire phase at present (and more frequently these days).  Fortunately, he has Friday off work.

The kids always seem to bring me coffee and chocolate to ease the pain of giving Carl back to them.  I nibble on treats as I go about the house picking up puppy toys and washing the dog-hair out of the sheets and blankets.  This is a change up from the cat-hair that usually gets washed up.

Vacuum the Spanish needle seeds from the carpet in the parlor, along with now dried muddy pawprints.  Ahhh!  Even for an avowed "Messie" like me, it feels good to clean up once the mess gets to a particularly bad level!

I announced to the outdoors from the deck that the dog had gone home and that The Prisoner could have his house back, but he did not take me up on the offer until early Friday morning (when there's a definite chill in the air).

Here he is, back on the dining room table.  He's also re-occupied "his" chair, and I fed him a whole can of wet cat food for his special breakfast treat.  After all, Carl got spoiled during this visit, Prisoner should get some of the same.

Today's plan (besides restoring order) is to lay in groceries, because... because... the dreaded "S" word is in the forecast for the weekend.  Hard freeze overnight tonight.  Freezing drizzle possibly on Saturday (football game folks, dress warmly).  And *snow* possible on Sunday.  Yep, a taste of Winter, to make up for the hints of Summer in the past week.

Life is good.  Spark on!

  1. Awwwww, what a wonderful picture of DS and Carl. They look happy to be reunited.

Reading your line about praying for your DS’s peace of mine w/the world in it’s dumpster- fire phase – AMEN. Prayers all around. Dumpster-fire phase is absolutely the best description of these times I have seen yet. Unfortunately, totally fitting.

Glad to hear that Prisoner got the message that he has the house back. PHEW. Yes, getting cold out there.

I KNOW! Stocked up on groceries, too, as . . . that *S* word being forecast here, too. Booooo!

Stay warm and dry this weekend. Enjoy the return of a routine.

    1. Thanks! Prayers for so many places and people these days! There are many things that we cannot personally "fix", but going into a spiral ourselves won't help matters... so, restoring order and remembering to breathe!

  2. Peace--and the peace of mind that comes with it--would be a welcome gift for all of us.

It's great that kitty is back inside for the stinkin' weather that coming. Other than the freezing drizzle, your forecast is similar to ours. Please feel free to keep the drizzle. Yucky stuff! Pantry and freezers are full, so I think I'm ready.

Kitty looks comfy and settled in on the table top. It's nice that he's so flexible with his home and routine. 😼

Stay safe and warm this weekend. 🤗💕

    1. Praying for peace in the world at large. So much misery in so many places. It is a measure of privilege to be able to "turn it off" to achieve a sense of peace.

Saturday morning and as chilly as predicted. Brrrr! Those waiting for a true "hard feeze" to settle the autumn allergies got it, overnight.

You stay safe and warm, too, in this "snap preview" of Winter.

  3. Yes, snow is coming this weekend for us too. It's cold outside right now.

Glad you had a great visit with Carl and that the Prisoner is getting back into his normal. Yes, he needs to get some spoiling.

Have a wonderful weekend! (((BIG HUGS)))

    1. I think I spoiled him a bit too much. He's expecting the same come Saturday morning. And do you have any idea how dangerous it is when your cat "heels" and you change direction? LOL... no wonder we think they are trying to trip us!

  4. I'm glad you got Carl off home after a nice visit, and that the Prisoner is once again king of the domain. :D

I always like restocking my groceries; generally once or twice a week for fresh produce. But I also keep in frozen produce and the regular -- beans, rice, pasta, canned and frozen proteins. We rarely get snow, but I've had the cold making the rounds for a little over a week and am glad I had groceries. Once I quit coughing I masked and sanitized and made a quick zoom to restock produce, but in a pinch could have done without or had the kids get things for me.

    Happy Friday.

    1. Similar habits here... twice a week to get "bananas and blueberries"... or there always seems to be one or another salad veggy that runs out mid-week. Somehow when the 'fridge is stocked, it's a sense of security. And I still have one more good beef-centered meal left from the roast Carl and I shared.

Hope that cold is well on the mend!

  5. After a hot few days (with lots of biting asian beetles around) we have headed back down to seasonal and I am thrilled that this will mean the bugs dying out there. Love the pictures too, bet you are going to be resting now that all is quiet. I love visits but I always need a rest after.

    1. Yep, one needs a bit of space to "assimilate" the visit. I queried my daughter in law this Saturday morning about whether she'd had allergy issues after sipping coffee and nibbling a biscuit at my table. (She's always had cat allergies.) The good news is she seems to be getting better, partially growing out of the allergies now that she's an adult, plus learning about treatment choices and when to use them.

  6. Ack, snow! Today it's 80 and all the windows are opened for the last time this year.

Yes, the world has gone nuts.
I've been a historical researcher lately and I ponder if I'd be better off like people in the 1700's. No news was good news. At least you didn't hear it in real time.

    1. "If ignorance were bliss, 't'were folly to be wise"... sometimes ignorance is the best peace we can hope for, seeing only the LOCAL bad news? There's so much bad news in the world the stories keep crowding one another out! So... the off switch is a godsend!

Enjoy your last "windows open" day... as the cold will eventually get to even you all.

  7. Saturday I stepped out to the gym and it was 57°; once at the gym, after 2 sets of stairs up to my corner of the gym, off came the vest!
This morning? 54° I park outside at this gym and farther away from the front door. It was nice, but I’m sure I would have gotten sunburned had I stayed outside for any amount of time. High of near 80° though, heatwave week (the Santa Anas).

    1. Those are nice temperatures... it was 17F Monday morning here, but that's unusually cold for October. Next week will improve!
