Second Day Stew

While we wait around for Winter Storm Finn (they name Winter Storms now, too, not just Hurricanes) I continue to savor the Scarborough Fair stew.

I did get out for a Sunday afternoon walk, and I laid in groceries.  Because the Winter Storm warning runs from 6 a.m. Monday to noon Tuesday, and everybody should be prepared to hole up.

Monday morning, January 8th

It's shiny out there, in the pre-sunrise morning.  Snow has not yet started and the temperature is right around the freezing mark.  I am glad I don't have to go anywhere today.  I'm probably going to pull the plug on tomorrow's trainer workout, too.

The Prisoner keeps asking to go out and then back in.

Prisoner's dilemma

At about 8:10 a.m. I noticed that the precipitation was now coming in the form of snow.  This is supposed to continue, "heavy at times".  Pretty as I write.  It is coming straight down.

One sure sign this is a "real" storm?  The Weather Channel sent an on-location reporter to my town!

It looked as though it was lightening up around 2 p.m., so I put on my snow boots and winter coat and went out to clear.  Back inside after getting "most" of the heavy wet stuff off (only did about a quarter of the driveway but I did all the walks).  The temperature was still fairly warmish for a snow day when I went out, but that's a workout.

There are still teeny tiny little flakes dancing in the air and the Winter Storm Warning doesn't end until noon tomorrow.  The snow is supposed to continue, the temperature is supposed to drop, and the wind is supposed to pick up, according to the weatherman.

Because of this, I went out and finished off the half of the driveway on the side where I garage my car.  Looks to me like most of the neighbors have also chosen to clear off this evening, rather than wait until after noon tomorrow.  I'd rather shovel while it is not quite as bitter cold and windy as it has been known to get!

All said, I should sleep well tonight.  Life is good.  Spark on!

  1. The snow was predicted to start here tonight after rain all morning. The weather folk sure missed this one. Snow started about 1pm. We lost power for about 20 minutes. Terrifying to lose power in the middle of a storm. Warm-up a bit for Thursday and then brutal for the weekend. The older I get the more I hate winter!!

Stay safe in the storm. 🤗❤️

    1. I echo your sentiment about Winter. It's pretty, but hang it all, it's COLD! It snowed sideways overnight, and we have it ending this morning, but blowing around and then the deep freeze will set in.

Stay warm... hope the power doesn't go out for you again!

  2. Your stew looks really good and perfect for this cold weather.

It looks like you got more snow than us. We got an inch, but the mountains got hit. It's just really cold now. We have another chance for snow later on it the week.

Have a wonderful day! (((BIG HUGS)))

    1. I estimated about two inches yesterday, because it was probably four, but melted to slush on arrival. It was heavy and my muscles protested this morning when I got up. More snow fell overnight, and my tape measure on the deck rail says 3 inches. So I will have to re-clear today, and we have the deep freeze that normally shows up in January putting in an appearance in the next few days.

Stay safe and warm up there on the high plains!

  3. Only little dustings of snow here, and they keep calling on a big snowfall, I am getting to the point that I will believe it when I see it. BTW your Christmas brothers and sisters mug inspired me and have ordered one for hubby with him and all his brothers. Keeping my fingers crossed that it will turn out as nice as yours.

    1. Oh, I'm so happy for your hubby's mug to come! There's something about having those reminders of our blessings about. I'm sipping my morning coffee from mine as I type.

Yeah, we might have just barely made the low end of the range they predicted for the two day total here. The local TV weatherman had us predicted as 5 to 10 inches over the course of yesterday and today. I'd say we got 2 yesterday. I have yet to estimate what came overnight.

  4. The winter storm is just arriving at the Gulf coast of central FL…of course, the danger here is tornados and flooding. I’ve seen reports of destruction in the Panhandle. I do remember, though, my share of driveway shoveling for decades in Ohio…I sort of enjoyed it…I think because you can see the progress. Like you said, it’s a good workout.
Had my yearly physical yesterday…overall positive except my A1C is creeping in the wrong direction :( .Soooo….doctor said to cut way back on those processed carbs that have found their way into my diet this year. Yep, know what I need to do ….. Eissa7

    1. I heard from Marsha in Lakeland this morning about the rain and tornado dangers arriving down in your neck of the woods. One big storm, this Finn, that affects all the way from here to there!

Sorry to hear about the A1c, but as you say, you know what you need to do! I know what I need to do as well... it's the sticking with it that's challenging!

      Stay safe down there!

    1. Brrr! That's cold for California! Unless of course you're in the mountains...

Workout sponsored by Mother Nature this week. Didn't get my walks, but I sure got some outdoor time!

    2. I’m near the coast, freezing for us! I think of you and your Mother Nature workouts in the morning, when my brain thinks I should stay under the covers because it’s too cold and I don’t HAVE to go to the gym. It shames me into getting up and at it!

    3. I waved off my second workout of the week, too, as the next storm is predicted to drop 4 - 8 more inches of snow between 3 p.m. today (Thursday) and 9 p.m. Friday. Plus add the wind and really nast temperatures. Our high on Sunday is predicted to be minus 4 Fahrenheit! Brrr!
