First workout since Dr. advice about the right arm

Winter sunrises are so pretty!  This one is about a week old, but it was one of the most vibrant, and I did not see it shared here before, so, there you have it.

The doctor said

A couple of things I didn't mention about my doctor visit yesterday are that I took my blood pressure cuff along, because of a few "higher" readings I had at doctor's offices the past couple of years.  It read higher at my blood draw than my home cuff that same morning.  So I tucked the cuff into my bag and dragged it along.

So, the young nurse took my BP, and it was normal.  I told her what it read at home this morning.  Without even taking it out of the bag, we decide there's nothing wrong with my machine.

Second thing, I explained to the doctor about my right arm, which has been "talking" to me off and on when I do anything like a bicep curl with it.  Since some time in November.  Particularly over 8 pounds on the weight.  I explained how it would get better, then worse, then better, then worse.

Any nurses reading?  Did you diagnose "tendonitis" sight unseen?  Yeah, that's pretty much our working diagnosis.  Attempt #1 at rehab?  Rest it for a couple of weeks.  Ice if it gets sore for any reason.

Remind you of the "Doctor it hurts if I do this?"  "Then don't do this!" joke?  It did me.

What the trainer did

So today I went to work out with the trainer.  We were masked up.  We skipped the bicep curls entirely, but got a decent workout in, anyway.  For him, it was a short day... everybody else canceled.  The gal before me wasn't feeling good.  The gal after me has twin middle schoolers who both tested positive for Covid.  So far she and her husband are testing negative, but the whole family is isolating.  Her husband, though, was already miserable... with shingles.  Yikes!  I'd say that family has more than their fair share of "stuff" going on just now!

When I arrived, the trainer was doing his own workout.  When I left he left, too.  The weather is VERY nice for January, and he was thinking if the wind wasn't bad, he might go for a bike ride this afternoon.  Hope it works out for him.

And the local virus news

It being Tuesday, the health department is giving their update on how the county is doing.  I read online that Omaha's health director has put their mask order back in place, with backing from the City Council.  I was expecting similar from ours here in Lincoln.

But NO!  It can't get any higher than Severe risk, on the dial.  But they let the mask order expire on December 23rd, having given everyone the chance / time to get vaccinated. Omicron changed the game.

They are opening another drive-thru testing site "by appointment only" starting Thursday.  The existing one has added an extra drive-thru lane, and they have also changed to "by appointment only".

The advice to those of us in the general public:  do NOT get tested "just for peace of mind".  Instead, isolate, quarantine if exposed to someone else who tested positive.  For me that means:  If you get symptoms, and you are vaccinated, treat it like Covid.  Isolate until you get better.

That doesn't mean it's not a possibility down the line that they might re-impose masking order.  Our county is still the highest vaccinated in the state.

Pep talk time

Here's to taking care of ourselves, best can do, this one and only Tuesday, January 11th, 2021 we will ever get.  I'm hoping you are healthy, that you are doing the things that you CAN do to stay that way, and that whatever circumstances you find yourself in you are first kind to yourself so that you can then be kind to others.

Life is good.  Savor it.  And Spark on! 🔥✨💖

  1. Did anyone say 'lighter and maybe a few more reps'? I've gotten that advice since I've become the Queen of Tendonitis. It's worked for me as well as made me aware ice is my friend.
    Good luck.
Yep, covid seems to be circling my wagon, too. Just a mater of time, I think.
Saw my retina MD this morning; I have excellent eyes!

It's 10 F here tonight. I only ventured out to see the doc.

    1. Got to 51F here today... relief should be headed your way in a few days! Doc said "Have you tried the motion with no weight added?" Sounds pretty close to your "lighter and a few more reps".

  2. Smart taking your BP machine. Now there are no doubts.

Our county health department doesn't post Covid stats, but the next county to the southwest does. Numbers and hospitalization are growing in leaps and bounds. School mask mandates are decided by the individual districts. What a mess! The new masks are scheduled to arrive tomorrow.

Looks like we're in for lots of snow for the weekend. As long as an arctic blast doesn't come with it...that will be fine with me.

Doing what I/we can do to stay safe...mask up, distance, and wash our hands. I need to buy stock in hand lotion!

Have a happy tonight and a happier tomorrow.
    Stay safe. Be well.

    1. Our forecast has changed to include that front coming through on the weekend, too. Unfortunately, "Mix" was all over the forecast for Friday with a high of 40, and rain and snow both. My least favorite form of precipitation!

Stay safe, be well is the guidance for all of us! You, too!

  3. We hit a million cases over the weekend. We have the Stock Show going on and they said you had to wear a mask, but on the news there were many without one there. We'll be staying home and we have plenty to keep ourselves busy.

    1. Those of us in the "elderly" population, and those with underlying conditions... doing what we can. Beyond that, we've done what we can, and getting upset over the actions of others isn't going to help our health or ability to survive the surges. Sigh.

Do our best... staying home is a fine strategy... one I'm mostly following, too.

  4. Masks are a bylaw in our county taking it's lead from the provincal government. You cannot enter any place without a mask on and it has been that way for 2 years now. I keep my proof of shots in my purse and my mask in my hand everywhere I go. So far so good for us but the numbers are high in various areas. Seems nearly 90% of our population has had at least the first shot if not all of them.

    1. Sigh. You live in a civilized country! I apparently live in the "wild west", but my city/county did pretty well, and still holds the position of the highest vaccination rate in the state. But it's "that kind" of state.

Numbers area high here, and I halfway expect that we'll get a mask order next week or the week after. In the meantime, *I* am masking, as are many others I know who are careful to protect themselves.

  5. Beautiful sunrise!

Yup indeed. Sounds like tendonitis to me! That’s how it acts. Rest, ice, anti-inflammatories and if it gets worse, possibly a cortisone injection.

Oh lord, I feel for the client w/2 middle-schoolers + for Covid. And with a DH suffering from shingles. Nasty! Hope she and her Dh test negative.

    1. Gee, you sound like my doctor! Same stuff he recommended, except for the cotisone... he was saying rest, ice, Advil, and if that all doesn't work, perhaps some PT.

Yes, I'm praying for my fellow client's family, and grateful that so far she and her husband have tested negative. The whole fam is vaxxed, even those two middle schoolers. So it's more the hassle of isolation (plus of course those shingles are no fun for Dad). Kids have to be out of school for X days (I forget what the current policy is). Then if they are symptom free they can go back. Our schools are universal masking, so that part is not at issue.

Hang in and stay safe, my friend!

  6. In spite of your arm problem, glad you could still train with your trainer. Gosh! The Covid situation is getting terrible everywhere. We gotta be vigilant about it by keeping ourselves as safe as possible.
Refreshing sunrise as a promise of hope.

    1. I am grateful for the safe feeling of the trainer's little studio, not a lot of people, and the few of us there are fully vaxxed. Like you said, vigilant about keeping ourselves as safe as possible... that includes being careful about nutrition, too.

  7. Hope the shoulder improves soon.

Tendonitis plagued me in my 20's which docs said was understandable since I spent days in an office on a typewriter with pressing deadlines, bowled on Monday nights, played tennis on Wednesday & Saturday and played league volleyball on Friday nights. It's not that I felt invincible, just ignorant of the consequences of overuse
and repetitive injuries. Live and learn.

    Stay warm and safe.

    1. When I told the trainer what the doctor said and we talked through the coming and going of the injury, it made sense to him as well as to me, and I'm sure we'll be modifying the workouts to suit rehabbing it. As you said, live and learn.
