A new week begins, middles, and is almost to the end already!

Carl is a laid-back character at the dog park, and more than happy to accept attention from new friends.  Except of course when he's running wild with a pack of other dogs.  He loves playing chase me!

He has always avoided going through the tube in the photo.  We're thinking it's because he would have to stoop/crawl; it's not big enough for him.  The little dogs that scoot through it are considerably shorter than Carl.

I am glad he's not into crawling.  I hope it means he won't try to go under the fence at my house!

Sunday was a beautiful day.  The temperature got all the way up to 63℉ in the afternoon.  It really is a week early for Carl's birthday "party" but the kids had checked the weather forecast next weekend and it was a 30-degree difference (colder next weekend).

Monday morning, I woke early, well rested, and broke my fast with rolled oats simmered in 1% milk and a cup of fresh blueberries.  I walked a mile inside with Leslie Sansone, something I started doing during 2023.  If I don't feel like going outside, and I don't have a trainer session, it's a good way to make sure I have some sustained activity.  I remember seeing lots of other Sparkers using her program "back in the day" when I was doing triathlons and training more vigorously, but at this stage in my life, the walking tapes fit my needs.

I had fuel saver points expiring Monday, too, so I took Dexter over to the Hy-Vee gas station and used them.  He was not yet down to half a tank, but you know, if a 25-cent discount is going to be lost by waiting longer, better to use it on half a tank than lose it for a whole tank.

I've been clothes shopping online, with the wedding and reception in mind.  Here's one that I found that has a good bit of orange (bride's favorite color).

I got the e-mail confirmation that it has shipped, so we'll see if it passes the fit test, and the fabric test.  Since I'll have dog handling duties and weather in late April is unpredictable, I also ordered a top that I could pair with jeans.  You just never know.  Seven weeks to go, and an outdoor wedding.

On the viewing front, I'm finally jumping on the Yellowstone bandwagon.  Watching episode 1 of season 1 on Monday.  Looked as though this is going to be this generation's Dallas or Dynasty.  I had this notion in my mind that the series was going to be set in history, as in when Yellowstone was first being discovered and settled.  Oops.  Not!  And after a few more episodes I decided it was darker and more violent than the Dallas version that aired in the 1970's and 1980's.

I have also been enjoying the re-boot of Quantum Leap, and something called Poker Face.  All three of these on Peacock.

Tuesday:  workout with the trainer day.  Lather, rinse, repeat.  A very necessary part of my week!

Tuesday evening, I got an invite to the old Spark maintenance group's new io group, and I trotted over, and got to see several old Spark friends are quite active on that venue.  They had some technical problems with the Google groups site they had been on but are finding an alternate solution.  I hadn't been very active over there, finding the interface "clunky" for me.  Probably just the way my brain works (or doesn't).  But I'm glad the group is there.

Spark really has splintered, but small "islands" of people are all over.  There are a bunch over on My Fitness Pal, a few Facebook groups, that new io group (formerly Google group), and a loose collection of bloggers.  Slowly, we're "losing" one another, like school graduates who scatter.

Ace and I opted out of our Wednesday afternoon walk as it was chilly and damp out and she hadn't worn a coat and we decided to sip Earl Grey tea and have sister talk instead.  A lovely break in a week, it was.

Brrrr!  Thursday morning, we had big wet flakes falling.  The cats looked at me with accusing eyes from the deck, but they are the ones who insisted on going out there!

Snow-in-the-dark photos.  Prisoner goes into his "guard" mode, Rubia huddles in the corner.

It was trainer work-out day, being Thursday, and that felt good.

Looking forward to several deliveries... the wedding wardrobe pieces, some flavored coffee that's been delayed in shipping, and soon, the Carl portraits!

That's about it from here, I had best wrap up and post this!

Life is good.  Keep on Sparking!

  1. It is sad that old Spark friends are drifting apart. So many tried keeping in touch, but being spread out everywhere makes it hard.

My sister keeps telling me to watch Yellowstone, but you know me with old movies and TV shows.

No one wants to be out for a doggie party in the cold. I always think I should take Scoots to a park, but he would drive everyone crazy.

    1. LOL! Some of them (the doggies) do drive everyone crazy as the informal packs form, change and re-form. It's really quite the canine ballet when there are a lot there.

Yes, sometimes the older shows are better.

  2. A warm, sunny day at the park for a birthday party. Doesn't get much better than that!

The dress is stunning! You will be the bell of the ball. You and your escort Carl will make a fetching couple. 🙍🏻‍♀️🐕‍🦺 We'll be watching for photos of the big day.

I've been a Yellowstone fan since the first episode. Do you by any chance watch The Last of Us? It's outstanding!! This has to be the best show that's been on tv in years. It's superbly written and the actors are beyond compare. I predict, here on 09 March 2023, that Bella Ramsey will win a best actress Emmy for her role as Ellie. I've reached out to my family and circle of friends searching for another fan to discuss the episodes. So far, no luck. *sigh*

Last week, I got an invite from a Sparker pal to join MFP. I joined when Spark ended, but the site had problems with hackers, so I deleted my account. Nothing is quite like Spark.

    Happy tomorrow. ☺️

    1. I haven't yet tripped on to The Last of Us. I'll add it to my list of "when I need something to watch".

  3. Glad your week was the “lather, rinse, repeat” kind.
I’ve been feeling like I can’t catch a break (bring on the pity party): ear infection this time; antibiotic, steroid, and a nasal spray. My body seems to go all out (in?). At least I know when something is off, felt the beginnings of it over the weekend, the full blown ear ache Sunday night into Monday morning, Dr appt early Tuesday morning… weather/allergy thing with more rain coming, best reason to “sleep it off” (maybe?)

  4. That sounds like a fun week so far. I miss all my Spark peeps and you hit it with the school graduation likeness. I keep up with one or two in email/text/here and my contacts have dwindled down to about 4. My days are busy, though. Time flies too fats.

    1. I think it was you that predicted this would happen. I think we could all see it coming. Time *does* fly faster and faster.

    2. LOL, 'fats' indeed!
Yep, I did predict that. There have been some sad leavings, a few who were promising to keep in touch...nope, disappeared.
Then there are some I call on a whim, you are among those. Remember; we were old friends we had never met at one time.
I am curious to see how you feel in that pretty dress. Is it a wrap around? My 'mom sense' says tie the closure tight and watch the wind!

    3. Yes, it's a wrap. It hasn't arrived yet, so I don't even know if it will fit! Depending on the weather (which you know can be dicey on April 21, in Nebraska, I might not even wear it!

  5. I have been wondering about Yellowstone, it is one they keep pushing on Prime here. Don't think it will be my cup of tea. I have lost touch with so many sparkers. My Canadian group had a group on Facebook but everyone got pretty quiet there and slowly slipped away. It just didn't have the daily thread that Spark had. I miss a lot of the Sparkers I knew.

    1. It's pretty intense (Yellowstone) and I dragged my feet starting to watch it.

I agree that the "daily-ness" of Spark was helpful. So was the variety and scope. If one thing wasn't working, another might be, on any given day or week or season. I also miss many of the Sparkers and it's been great re-discovering a pool of them. My kid sis had kept up with this pool but the interface had been just awful for me.

We all have preferred means of keeping in touch and Spark just put so many of them together.

    2. Exactly, many liked the teams and others the daily thread. There was always something for everyone.

  6. Carl is a handsome boy!

    Wow! 63F – perfect weather.

Love walking and Leslie’s workouts are great!

Ohhh, that dress is really pretty! Wow! 7 weeks til the wedding! HOW QUICK time passes.

I remember watching Quantum Leap! Alwayas intriguing story lines. Haven’t watched Yellowstone, but DO remember Dallas and Dynasty!

I miss seeing so many Sparkers on MyFitnessPal, but after being hacked 3 times, that was it for me. **SIGH** Am enjoying the new Maintenance Group on IO.

Currently looking @ 9 in. of snow that fell overnight and 1-2 more inches this morning. Ah well, Mother Nature is definitely not done w/winter yet. Sadly, I am! LOL

    Here’s to a good weekend.

    1. Nine inches of March snow? Oh, well!

Contrast to last weekend, we have sleet/freezing rain this morning. Headed over to the gratitude thread to say I'm thankful I don't HAVE to go out today!

Yellowstone lost me at the premiere, when KC euthanized his horse by shooting it under the chin - sorry, this Aggie demands some degree of realism! So I’ll be keeping it retro with my classic Star Trek…
Love the dress! (but I hope I won’t be suitin out in any mother-of-the-groom outfits anytime soon)

  9. I love that dress! Hope it works out!

Plans versus actuals

This is one that could have been predicted:  I got out the hose and filled the kiddie pool while Ember was finishing one of her puppy naps...
