The puppy growth photos, from 2019

Carl's growing up photos, from May 2019 to October, 2019.

He liked that one stairstep, I called it his "den".  I took a picture of him on it each day he came to my house for puppy day care.

He came on Mondays to visit Grandma, as his Daddy had to show up at the physical office on Mondays.

You can see him growing out of his den, week by week.

May, June, the beginning of July... then there is a bit of a break, of a few weeks when we laid my brother to rest.  Grandma wasn't home to provide puppy day care.

You can see the growth spurt.

All of a sudden, he didn't fit!

Grandma stopped taking pictures on the step about that time.

I had no idea he wasn’t a black lab! It just goes to show, you never can tell… 😂

  5. Okay...color me ignorant, but why isn't he a black lab? He sure looks black to me. And I'm pretty sure I'll feel REALLY stupid when I get the answer. Nevertheless, the photo timeline is adorable. 🐶

    1. This post was inspired by a discussion on the Maintenance groups threads about his breed, since he looks the spitting image of a puppy picture of a black lab in training someone else posted. In fact, Carl is a mixed breed, with a German Shorthaired Pointer for a dad, and a Doberman Pinscher mom... but he sure LOOKS like a black lab, doesn't he?

  6. Aww, love seeing dogs as puppies. So so cute! I wish I could have seen Scooter so tiny even though he's still tiny.

    1. Thank you. I'm so proud of how he's turned out as an adult dog, and a lot of that has to do with puppy training. His daddy had a set of instructions for me whenever I was taking care of him, and now... no pulling on the leash, slowing to grandma pace so he doesn't knock me down the steps (he's a big boy), knows how to wait his turn for treats, understands a LOT of English words... to get a good dog, you train the puppy!

    2. very true, I have seen a few results of no proper training and it is really sad.

  8. Interesting mix for Carl. I always thought he was a lab. Just goes to show that looks can be deceiving. Enjoyed the pics.

    1. I've seen so many "rescue" dogs that aren't at all what they look like! I remember one beagle mix that the only "beagle" part of him was the baying.
