Labor Day "proper"

The Prisoner, wishing all a Happy Labor Day, as the sky was starting to lighten in the East.

Labor Day itself was a low-energy day in Emberville.  We were up later than usual on Sunday, so this was needed for all concerned.  Except The Prisoner, who had a calm, dog-free house while the dog and I went visiting across town.

Ember didn't seem much interested in ball chase in the back yard.  Mom wasn't much interested in a leash walk.  Ember took her naps.  Mom took one, too.

Mom went on a sugar binge with the leftover dessert from Sunday's gather (they sent home TWO pieces with me), then crashed.

Tuesday morning, I managed to wear a "new to Ember" sweatshirt and not get bit in the process.  Personal trainer session for me, then home to let Ember out for a little back yard play before we put the harness and leash on for the trip to the vet.

Waiting.

After all was said and done, the verdict (for now) is that we are looking at hives.  Likely contact dermatitis (allergy) from laying in the grass (which Ember does a lot).

They sent us home with antibiotics (twice a day with food until done) and a mousse DuoxoS3 to apply once a day for a week, then "as needed" after that.

Ember is OK to still have her Spa day Wednesday morning, as they have the DuoxoS3 as a shampoo at their groomer.  They left notes for Tony, and I can mention it when I drop her off, as well.

My wallet is a bit flatter, but my mind is calmer.  And the vet tech gave Ember the greatest compliment at the end:  she asked if Ember was a service dog!  Her temperament and behavior reminded the tech of a relative's small lab service dog.  Good job, Ember!  Maybe you'll grow up to have "work" of that sort, if we keep on training.

Ember with her orange iguana, an inside toy she took outside for a while.

Life is good!

Spark on!

  1. Did I miss a post? What sent you and her highness to the vet?
Gorgeous photo of Poor Kitty. Haven't seen him for a while.
    Have a nice evening. 😺🐢

    1. I looked back... somehow I failed to mention it in earlier blogs! I had made the appointment for Ember to go to the groomer on Wednesday (today), but then on Saturday noticed the rash developing on her belly/inner haunches, where she's been "worrying" at it. I couldn't tell... bug bites? Allergy? So, vet visit!

  2. That's great news, Ember's doing well! It sounds like the vet visit went smoothly, even though it can be stressful for both you and Ember. It's always reassuring to know that the vet has a plan to address the issue.

I'm glad Ember's temperament is so good. Service dogs go through a lot of training, so it's wonderful to hear that she's already showing some of those qualities.

    Enjoy your day! (((BIG HUGS)))

    1. I think that with so many labs becoming service dogs these days it puts people in mind of it. But you are so right... LOTS of training goes into them becoming that well behaved and making decisions that assist their handlers! I don't have that lofty a goal for Ember, but I look at what some folks have done with dogs that visit nursing homes or schools... that would be an awesome thing to aspire to... someday. When she quits chewing inappropriately, that it!

Hope you and your mom and Scoots have a great day and week!

  3. Poor Ember! Poor YOU! Miss Lilly is allergic to the grass too. She’s on daily Apoquel for the itchies. It is the paws and ears that take the brunt of the pollen getting on her and irritating her skin. Poor babies!

She had her annual check yesterday and can say, without fear of contradiction, the wallet is WAY flatter than it was.

Hope the shampoo helps her. And hope Ember enjoyed her 'free time'!

    Hugs and blessings

    1. Since this is the first such episode, we're clearly still evaluating. Tony the Groomer said they do have bulk rates for things like if the vet wants her bathed once a week or something with the special shampoo. We'll see how the mousse works. She seems calm and is down for a nap after coming home from her spa day.
