Officially Mega-Jealous now

Yesterday, they made it to the Jersey Shore!

This involved thin-crust pizza, from the little joint about a mile from my son's paternal grandmother's old home.  Red Star Pizza.

This pizza ruined me for life, once my hubby introduced me to it.  Ruined me in terms of what passes for pizza around here.  Valentino's, the local favorite, is very different from the classic tomato pies of the East coast.  Not that it's bad, and it is a childhood memory of mine, but it wasn't for my ex, nor is it for my son.

Fresh, hot, out of the oven, and my DIL to be took a video of opening the box!  Steam rising, audio of the ahhh's.

My son's dad did not travel with them, it was the three intrepid travelers, who were starting their path from Ithaca, NY to the Jersey Shore with 1600 miles already put on the car.

Carl is a good traveler, and they are good dog parents, stopping for frequent breaks.  The river photo is from Washington's Crossing State Park, the PA side, I think.  The beach photos are from Island Beach State Park.  And it may be concluded that the sand on Carl's snout is from that romping.  He was a happy pup yesterday, prancing up to the waves, and sometimes running back from them, too.

I could spend hours on that beach, and that's when I messaged Lacey that I was officially Mega-Jealous.

Today they are taking all that video back to DS's dad, so that he can have the same vicarious joy that I had, watching those waves roll in.  I got a huge sense of peace with the natural sound and sights.  Only way it could be better is if I was there, myself!

Life is good.  Take care of yourself and Spark on!

  1. I'll take your word about the goodness of the pizza. I am probably the only person in the US who is not a fan of pizza.

The beach photos remind me Rehoboth Beach. DH did a tour of duty at the State Department in DC followed by another tour in Maryland. The beach was a favorite day trip on the weekends during the summer. That was many eons ago.

Re Maid Rite: Lexington is about 120 miles south of the Iowa border. Maybe the owner migrated south and introduced the sandwich there. We've traveled through Iowa several times. I don't recall seeing Maid Rite, but it's probably because it was not something to catch my attention. It's kinda like the pizza joints, I don't see those either. My son, who can eat pizza 3 times a day, every day (he doesn't), and can spot a pizza joint from miles away. I say it's because he can smell them. ;-)

So many good memories happen for me as I travel vicariously with you. To quote Bob Hope, "Thanks for the memories."

    Have a super day!

    1. We all have our favorites and those things that are just "meh"! I did not have any idea how good this pizza was until my hubby introduced me to it. Like I said, it ruined me for the kind I grew up with.

Rehoboth Beach sounds awesome, too. Anywhere you can get natural shoreline is awesome. Glad your good memories got triggered. I find the blogs of others do that for me, too.

  2. OH Barb, I hear you on the Pizza. When Jason was living in NY and I would visit before we got married, he’d take me to Sal’s Pizza. NY Style pizza. Delicious. Nothing like it here in the Midwest.

Looks like the 3 of them had a wonderful time on the beach!

Glad they’re having such a good time!

    1. And that pizza is doubly wonderful when you only consume it once every year or two! They should be halfway through the Poconos on their return trip by now...

  3. My three sisters and I just spent May 1-5 at a condo on the beach in Port Aransas TX for a much needed ocean fix. Our childhood annual vacations were to stay with family in Galveston TX. Our original trip was scheduled for 2020 but we all know what delayed things. Enjoyed our rare time together as a group as well as the sights and sounds and smells of the beach.

    1. I first set foot on an ocean beach when I was 31 years old. Those of us born far inland often fall in love with the shore.

Contemplating when I might get my own next "fix". Totally understand the rare group time with siblings, after the past two years!

  4. Now you have me wanting some pizza. I don't eat it that often because my mom is not a fan of it, crazy I know.

How I would love to live near an ocean, but then I would miss the mountains too much.

    1. That is an excellent reason to get just a slice, not a whole pie, and eat it out, rather than at home. As for mountains and shore, I don't live near either, and have to choose where to travel if I want to see them!

  5. Pizza.
Says it all. I fold mine and yes, I think NJ has the best. I don't understand that ranch dressing craze. Pizza should be eaten without dipping it into sauces!
I've been sifting Ocean City MD sand through my toes all week and even was knee deep in the ocean. Rather numbing and therapeutic! My first time here and it's funny how the same coast can have a different feel and sand. My NJ home has a fine, gray sand like flakes that pepper you and stay on you for days. Here it's a bit grainy, more yellow and brushes off easily.

Carl's joy in the beach is cute. They are visiting all my territory, but you knew that! It does look like the Crossing bridge. Fun to walk across as the competing parks on both side are interesting.

    1. Carl has been having a blast, and he's always been a good traveler. I know what you mean about different beaches... I find Island beach still my favorite spot. I've been on the Gulf coast and walked along the Pacific short on one business trip, but Island beach is ... special.

Yesterday I got video of the Lehigh tunnel, and driving by Philly on the highway.

  6. Pizza - I make my own most times but when visiting my sister in Florida and they order pizza I am a bit disappointed preferring Canadian style pizza than the American version. I do understand what you mean though, when away you really miss what you use to eat and the way they made it. Looks like a wonderful trip!

    1. Thanks. I don't do pizza often, and prefer to save the opportunity for when I can get the sort I really like, too. I can understand the disappointment if it doesn't quite fit what you wanted!

  7. I’ve been trying out the gluten-free crust-type pizzas with the help of Lactaid pills to aid in the digestion of the dairy, so far they are pretty good. Started with a 4 cheese, great base to pick add my own toppings.
