Today I am thankful for "black November" sales. Remember the leaking dishwasher? The one I had repaired? Well, the repair didn't stick, and it's leaking again. It's 24 years old, and I'm ready to stop nickel and diming it along.
Friday I took advantage of puppy nap #2 to go visit my local appliance store and found such deals happening.
The stove has been limping along for the past 18 years, with one heating element in the oven not working, and I'm on the third set of drip pans and the second set of knobs. The fridge/freezer, I had repaired last year. It's still percolating along, and probably could become a "garage fridge" if I wanted to. 18 years ago when the oven started glitching I was told they no longer make drop-in stoves. I have just lived with the limitations for all that time.
I had initially thought I would replace them one by one, but the sale prices make a trifecta possible for me this year. If I thought this year's "home improvement" spending was over, I was wrong. With a little bit of logistical luck, the pumpkin pie will be baked in a new appliance in a couple of weeks!
Life is good. Keep on Sparking!
Yup, sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and get a new item. I put those things off too but I think it is because of the time we were raised - to fix or make do until you save enough to get the item, although there is always something more pressing to use the savings all the time. Bet you will enjoy the new items.
ReplyDeleteWear it out, use it up, make it do .. my mother's mottos got internalized! LOL.

ReplyDeleteHooray! You deserve nice new matching appliances to enjoy!
Do they make a dog-proof finish? 🤔 😂 ❤️
You are joking, right? Even things that are dog proof are not Ember proof. Stainless steel finish on these.
DeleteCongratulations!! Holiday food prep should be quite enjoyable with all the new toys.
ReplyDeleteWonder if I remember how to bake with an oven that actually has both elements working? I am hopeful for getting the cabinetry cut in time for the stove delivery, else I'll have to reschedule!
DeleteWhen we decide that the household repair budget has been reached, the Universe always decides, “Oh no you haven’t!” Good luck w/your new appliances.

Truth! Not that I didn't know all of these were aging at about the same time frame!
DeleteWowowwow! So glad you found good bargains and can have appliances that work right every time. Yay, you!
ReplyDeleteI have to admit I'm stressing about what has to happen BEFORE the new stove can be slipped in and hooked up. Since the old one is a "drop in" the cabinet has to be opened up... I'm not real sure about how the process has to work, and I never got a call back from the handyman service.
DeleteThat's fantastic news! It sounds like you're taking advantage of a great opportunity to upgrade your kitchen appliances. After all those years of repairs and limitations, it's definitely time for a well-deserved refresh.
ReplyDeleteI'm excited for you to enjoy your new appliances, especially in time for the holidays. A new oven should make baking that pumpkin pie a breeze!
Enjoy it! (((BIG HUGS)))
Thanks! I just hope everything works out for the delivery and installation. Could be kind of awkward if the stove, especially, doesn't get installed.
DeleteCongrats!
ReplyDeleteThanks... you've been through a few of those "limping along" things with me, like the stove knobs. I'm a little worried about the sequencing of this change, and need to make a couple of follow up calls on Monday to make sure it gets pulled off!
