Missions for a Thursday

A Thursday that feels so much like a Monday, that is.  January 2nd, 2025.  Would you believe I could not find (in a very short trip to one store) a wall calendar, other than this undated one?  My mission during Ember's after day care nap was to fill in the dates and hang it by my bedroom vanity.  Would you believe I wrote 2024 on two of the months?

But mission accomplished, I now have a wall calendar.  Seems these relics aren't being handed out on every store or shipped by the USO or the brokerage houses any more.  USO sends me a little personal date book, but I really like the big wall kind myself.

I mentioned my inability to swallow the price increase to my trainer, and he surprised me.  He says he has the ability to set his own rates, but no matter what he charges his own clients, he has to pay the new owner 30% of what the published rates are.  He's willing to keep my rates the same for the next set of 12 sessions.  That should get me through the end of February, at least, which gives me the chance to give the new arrangement with doggy day care a good solid trial.

Thursday's list of things Mommy chose to do while Ember was at day care:

  • Workout with the trainer
  • Long relaxing shower after
  • Surprise!  Lunch visit from kid sis Alicia!
  • Laundry, two loads
  • Vacuumed out the inside and outside of the X-pen, the area rug in the family room, and the basement "big room" (Sheesh what a LOT of dirt to empty!)
  • Trip to get that calendar, plus a few other necessities.

Ember was happy to see me, was good about getting clipped in.  She was good about the ride home and going back into the house upon arrival (no getting distracted in the garage).  She was a good quiet puppy in her X-Pen while I browned ground beef to top her kibble, and she settled right down afterward in her crate while I got ready for bed myself.  We cuddled on the couch both before that and after I gave her a "last call" at 7-ish before tucking her in for the night.

The Prisoner once again did not leave his "safe space" while the dog was away.  He has been conditioned!  He did rub up against me as I did the laundry, and was in general lovey-dovey, though.

The weatherman is predicting snow over the weekend.  This will be Ember's first snowfall since coming to me.  The last time we had snow locally was February 2024, and I got Ember the end of March.  She did see a "first snowfall" as a puppy with her littermates, her breeder posted cute videos of them out playing in the Spring snow.  Wonder what she'll think of it now, especially as I'll have to introduce her to the snow shovel and human work that clears it.

It's things like this that remind us of the gaps in our training/socialization with our pups!

Let's all Choose to live life!  Spark on!

  1. Our area is predicted to receive a major storm. Watches went up yesterday. The storm is scheduled to hit tomorrow evening. As we know, Mother Nature does as she darn well pleases. The predicted snowfall amount is 4-10 inches with an icy mix and high winds tossed in for good measure.

Maybe Ember's next trick can be to use a snow shovel for you. πŸ˜„

    Happy weekend! Stay safe! πŸ˜ΊπŸΆπŸ€—πŸ’–

    1. We'll all just hunker down and deal with it! Yes! A plan.

  2. Laughing . . . it’s going to take a little more practice for me to remember . . . 2025!

Glad you and your trainer were able to negotiate a rate that will allow you to continue for 12 more sessions.

    Have a good visit w/Alicia!

Yes, we are due for snow Sunday through Monday, but remains to be seen how much. I am hoping none, but know that won’t happen, so next best wish . . . not a lot.

For today, though cold, I see peeks of sunshine and flakes of snow, so .. . I will enjoy the relative calme that is right now!

    1. Before the storm, right? Here's hoping for all of us to tuck in... that our furnaces work... that we don't HAVE to go anywhere, etc. Have a good weekend!

    2. Yes, the sun is out right now, so definitely the calm before the storm. Ah well, it's Winter!

  3. It seems like the daycare for Miss Ember gives you some much needed down time. I know you're using it to 'do' things, but the ease of doing and not having to be on puppy behavior/puppy safety alert might be some destress time you didn't know you needed.

No wall calendar?? How odd. I don't use one as I don't have a classroom anymore, but use a notebook size desk one I order online ... big boxes to write in. :D I used to buy larger desk calendars which were hangable from Staples or Office Max...maybe next year you could check an office supply out.

    1. Wall calendar: and hopefully by next year, Miss Ember won't be pulling them off the wall and shredding them (she did this with two, in 2024), and I can think about getting a couple sooner! LOL!

I agree about the destress of being able to "do" things and not worry about Ember inventing something destructive to do. There's more than the destruction of things involved, there's the risk to herself involved when she chews on furniture or eats strange stuff. And like any "mom" I add that worry to the top of protecting my "stuff".

  4. I always have to have one calendar to plan meals and put up appointments and DD work schedule. If it ain't on the calendar it isn't going to be done. Should have let me know I had a pile of new calendars from different places including our pet store. I only need the one and usually get it in October. Hope this one works for you.

    1. Thanks. It's always hard to pick "just the right one". This one has LOTS of space for writing things like birthdays as well as appointments. I found a smaller one for the kitchen at the grocery store this morning, cheap, so I won't mourn much if Ember gets the idea in her head to take it down. I think its nondescript enough and I have it hung high enough (for now) that it will be safe. Fingers crossed!
