New Year's Day, morning nap began while Mommy was preparing oatmeal for her own breakfast.
We resorted to a car ride after puppy nap #1, and a pup cup, too. Happy New Year, Ember.
The news definitely put a damper on my New Years' spirits. Guess "watch less news" is a valid resolution.
I got an email from the owner of the fitness studio. My own trainer sold the business to a younger fellow during 2024, and he's semi-retired now, only keeping some of us "legacy" clients. But the email informs us clients of a price hike, and it's a big one. I'm thinking now would be the time to use what's left that I've already paid for, and head back to more self-directed working out, maybe joining a regular gym again.
Having a personal trainer plan my workouts for me and be there to keep me motivated to come in regularly is a luxury. But one I feel it might be time to drop. With Ember as a motivation I still have to stay fit, but with day care for her as an option, time to go on my own again.
On the good news front... my cousin in Florida who just had to have her poodle put down (cancer) has now adopted a new puppy who looks just like the one she just lost. I swear. She posted photos. He's a little blonde thing, two months old, and adorable.
As we feel our way into the New Year, may we all find a path forward, hopefully one that is safe, sane, kind and loving!
Choose to live your own life! Spark on!
Sounds like a good plan with the price hike in the near future. I am sure that you have good workout plans in your mind and you can follow through with them. Just a way to tell you it is time to change things up I am thinking. When stuff like that happens to me, I think guess I need a different challenge. Yes, a less news is much easier for us too. We put it on but usually while cleaning up after supper, then we only hear a bit of this and a bit of that. Have a great Thursday!
ReplyDelete"If ignorance were bliss, 'twere folly to be wise" to quote Shakespeare. What bothers me is when I hear a newsman or woman reporting on events where my son was present and getting the details WRONG! Makes me wonder how much other stories they report they also have WRONG, and I have no way of knowing it.
DeleteReady or not...change seems to come with the new year. A news fast started in November and continues on for 2025. The huge amount of sadness seems to permeate every form of communication. My only goal is to stay as positive as possible. To be grateful for the many, many small blessings in my life and accept those things which I cannot change.
ReplyDelete"As we feel our way into the New Year, may we all find a path forward, hopefully one that is safe, sane, kind and loving!" Amen.
Wishing you a happy Thursday! 🤗💞
Good for you, going on a news fast! Has to help with that gargantuan effort to stay positive. And you have it so totally right... it is the many small blessings that add up to make accepting those things we cannot change possible.

ReplyDeleteI used to carry a cutout quote from Reader's Digest in my wallet -- "The only consistency is inconsistency" which served me well over the years. Onward and Upward!
I think a lot of us have had clippings we kept and carried in a wallet. A friend of my husband's carried one that said, "One piece of chocolate has exactly enough calories to enable you to reach for the next piece of chocolate..." Mine was from Helen Keller, "Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing."
DeleteIt's too bad you'll not have the trainer you're accustomed to, but hopefully you can find a gym/trainer that works for your price point and your needs. I used a gym for six months that I had to pay for, as my insurance didn't cover that particular one. I hadn't been in a gym for years as I have so much of my own equiptment (bands, dumbells, seated eliptical) but needed motivation and figured a gym would help. As well, I have some health stuff that I didn't have last time I was in a gym. The one I went to has primarily seniors as clients, was small, and had a trainer that made sure we knew how to safely use everything. Loved it. But I can't afford to continue this year, and will look to see which gyms my Medicare plan covers ... I want to do some of the okay-for-me group work outs for seniors, and I figure I can safely use the machines I've been trained on. Currently just using my stuff at home.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday!
Twist in the story. I talked with my trainer about the price hike and that I can't do it. He agreed to keep my rate the same, at least for the next cycle of 12 workouts. That should get me through January and February, at least, with my luxury intact.
DeleteWell, that's sad that your trainer is semi-retired. But good you can finish out the time you've paid for and then decide how to move forward. For sure, Ember provides lots of exercise. That's a good thing.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful that your cousin has a new puppy! As you know, lots of work but they're so SWEET!
As for news, I am definitely not a newsie anymore. Just too much that distresses. Don't need all the negativity! Saps the energy.
Hugs and good luck moving forward.

I totally agree about the negativity. We have enough personal burdens without borrowing the hype trying to stir us up besides!
DeleteHugs and good luck to us all!
I've picked up one day a week with DH's trainer. He's not allowed with the stent for a bit more. I'm enjoying learning new trick which I will happily perform on my own once we trade places.
ReplyDeleteSigh, news.
I've often thought that were this the 1700's, we'd not have the bombardment of all the troubles...ignorance being bliss, indeed. I've decided I can't share all the grief. I am aware, but not wearing it as a means of self-preservation.
That being said, hugs to all.
In the 1700's it took a whole lot more "process" to push "news" out. Technology has turned a lot of what used to be considered local news into global advertising.
DeleteBeing respectful that others may be feeling things much more deeply, we can't take it all in. Hugs to all, there, too!
