Dreams for the future

Neighbors always give us more ideas for projects "down the line".  Mine is currently having some brick masonry work done, as well as getting egress windows put in.

All this while my fence is being built.  So, nosey neighbor that I am, I asked, and got their business card!

Here are my little collection of masonry projects, waiting in the wings:

The arch over the front porch.

One side of the garage.

And the "landing" wall.  Anyway, not going to do it this week or anything, but those are on my list!  Along with bathrooms, kitchen, carpets, etc... on the inside.

Anyway, the fence guys are here already (8 a.m.) and starting in on the remainder. A cheeky robin got at the string they've been using to align the fence, and it's sagging in spots.

The day has begun.  I have the trainer session at noonish, and also it's Tuesday, so my DIL to be and I are hoping that "third time's the charm" will apply for the outdoor jazz concert in the sculpture garden this evening.

The peopling goes on!

Here's to all of us pacing ourselves, recognizing when it's time to stop, already, and take a rest.

Life is good.  Keep on a-sparkin'.

  1. Ah yes, the ONE PROJECT LEADS TO 10 OTHERS syndrome. LOL Very familiar w/that. Glad the fence project is going well.

    Enjoy the concert tonight!

    1. It's so true! Every time you fix one thing, six more draw your attention. But I was thrilled this morning when these guys did a little thing: they re-anchored my latch post that's connected to the garage wall. That wasn't an advertised piece of the project, but they seem to do those little extras, so getting a good review from me.

  2. We have separate his and hers projects list for things around the home and very few ever matchup so projects go undone, sigh.

    1. OMG, that describes what used to happen in my married life! Usually what happened was that I caved to his desires, and didn't get to do MY thing unless he was away! After I divorced, it was obvious that not ALL of my procrastination was due to our differences... some of it was indecision on my own part.

  3. A homeowner's list of to-do projects is never ending and usually never completed.

  4. After a remodel 30 years ago, I still have one door that is missing trim! Not visible to visitors!

    1. Funny how you see the results, even see that "one more thing" and don't get around to it, putting it off because it's too small. Sounds a lot like a sister from another mister!

  5. That always seems to have one project leads to another. It is exciting to have new projects around the house.

    1. Exciting, yes. Also exhausting! Woke up this morning ready to hide in my cave!

  6. My dad was a contractor and master carpenter, when he built our home the closets didn't get baseboards in them for years. Other homes that paid the bills were way more important. When they sold the house not too long ago I wondered if he ever did put baseboards in the front closet. ;) You know often when people finish all their projects they often then sell the place and it starts all over again.

    1. LOL about your dad the contractor! The shoemaker's children go barefoot, my mom used to say. My dad was a photographer / writer but the photos of us? All candid and AWFUL!

    2. My husband is a real DIY guy (a mechanical engineer) so I joke that I have lived in a perpetual state of construction for 30 years. When we decided to spontaneously move to this house 8 years ago, he had to finish all his little projects... for someone else to ultimately enjoy. I told him on THIS house, he needs to finish one before moving onto another. So far, he's done *pretty* well with that. Still hasn't finished the baseboards in the front hall or piano room (your post reminded me of that!) but maybe on a rainy day he'll get to that. It's the last thing to do after altering doorways/hand-making wainscoting/painting... and we started it in January 2020, I think. However, right now we're adding a front porch and extending the back screened-in porch so it's bigger, so he's doing that while the weather is good.

    3. Perpetual construction, eh? Never wholly "done"... probably true of us all, but you just have faster turn-around on projects with your DIY guy in the mix!

  7. Ha, boy can I relate to this post. We are also doing a lot of home improvement this summer. Maybe I'll have to create some blog entries about that.

Plans versus actuals

This is one that could have been predicted:  I got out the hose and filled the kiddie pool while Ember was finishing one of her puppy naps...
