Happy Juneteenth

This post has nothing to do with the meaning of Juneteenth, it just happens to have been written on the observed holiday.  The newest of Federal Holidays in the US is to celebrate the day on which the last of the slave population, in Texas, had the emancipation proclamation read to them, informing them that they were no longer enslaved.  It had been 2 and a half years since the proclamation was written.

Meanwhile, back at "the ranch", the "skin" is starting to be applied to the framework of the fence.

Here's the framework going around the corner.

The neighbor spoke to me about that little tree the "chief" talked me into keeping, he'd rather it went away.  OK, fine, I told them I have changed my mind, that tree should go.

Day by day, the Carl containment system progresses.

As of the end of the day, the remainder of the stringers were up, a decision was made about the last section before the gate, and the skin had extended around the corner.

In the process of recharging their power tool batteries they managed to trip one of my circuit breakers.  Not a problem, I flipped it back, they had already unplugged their charger.

As for the pickets, they will finish up tomorrow.  It was HOT out there today, topping out at 95℉.

Now I'm worn out, and I didn't even do any of that work.

Life is good.  Spark on!

  2. It's looking good. My dad would always says the two best smells are tires and lumber.

    1. Fresh cut lumber is an awesome smell. Not so sure I'm crazy about tires, LOL. Rain, right after the rain, that would make my "top"list! Have a great Tuesday.

  4. It is exhausting just having people doing work around you as you are keeping an eye on things and making sure they have what they need and it is going well. I understand completely.

    1. It takes a lot of social capital to watch over project work, even if you're not doing it! And of course the neighbor got involved, so there's that level of social, too. I have a feeling I'm going to run out of people-ing energy before next weekend is over!

  5. We've done 3 fence replacements since moving into our house in 1984; each time with different neighbors on the three shared areas. The most recent one was trickier than ever before since all 4 households had 11 dogs among them and a wide variety of personal schedules and we hadn't met folks from 2 households. We put in metal posts this last time in hopes of making this our last fence replacement in our lifetime.

    1. The more households involved, the more pets involved, the more complex. I'll keep my fingers crossed for this being your last!

  6. Indeed a new holiday. So new, many employers weren’t sure what to do. The cycle class was fuller than it has been, but most still had to get to work afterwards. The instructor works for the county, so she had the day off from that job. Maybe it will go more smoothly next year 🤷🏻‍♀️

    1. My kid sis shares your hope that it will go more smoothly next year... she had to deal with a lot of "adjusting" this time through the loop! People had time off but the accounting was a nightmare.

It's high time we did celebrate this... advances in freedom are worthy of noting and educating people about.

Plans versus actuals

This is one that could have been predicted:  I got out the hose and filled the kiddie pool while Ember was finishing one of her puppy naps...
