The loong wait is over

This hybrid truck was ordered 11 months ago.  It finally arrived at the local dealer on Monday.  The mythical son went to pick it up Tuesday morning.  I'm hoping they didn't get hail last night, as it's parked outside!

I will be most interested to see how this affects their fuel budget, replacing, as it did, a Buick Encore.

Meanwhile, I've been closely following my cousin's posts from Montana.  She and her life-partner (plus their pets) live in Bozeman.  Her job is in Gardiner.  She is unable to commute to work because of the flooding, and has been re-sharing the local groups' coverage of how things are. Some of those videos are absolutely stunning.  Example:  a helicopter, stretching electric wires into Yellowstone, to restore power to the park.  There were helicopters on duty to evacuate people from isolated spots, too. The dedication of the people who choose to live and work in the wilds inspires me.  Kindness to one another is truly a hallmark.

This morning has dawned cloudy and cool.  I have windows open, but it's not just letting in "cool" it's letting in "humid".  I don't know if the plan to set the fence posts today will happen with the dampness in the soil.  I found out via text message overnight that the tornado sirens in town blew, but I slept right through it.  If sirens blew, it's quite possible that trees and branches will keep my fence guys busy.

This morning it's cooler outside than in (insulation works, folks), so I have windows open, risking allergens and humidity coming in, but it feels so... so... Summer morning!  It's going to get hotter in the days ahead, so I'm savoring this one.

In local news, I saw that the restaurant where one of my old work friends and I last shared a luncheon at, pre-pandemic, is closing.  They are selling to another restaurant, and focusing their own business (Greek cuisine) on catering and a food truck.  The pandemic has affected so many businesses, and so many of our own habits... gave me an idea... maybe said friend and I could find out where that food truck will be and schedule a picnic style lunch, outdoors, to renew an old tradition!  Will have to check with her!

Meantime, everybody, remember to take care of yourselves, no matter WHAT is happening around you.  We're each and every one of us issued just one body in this life.  We can't trade it in, so let's do our best to keep it running.

  • Remember to hydrate.
  • Eat foods that support your immune system and your general health, "eat real food, not too much, mostly plants" makes sense.  But it takes persistence!
  • Keep active, as we are able, because "use it or lose it" applies to so much in life!
  • Stay aware, informed, but not alarmed.  Do things to calm yourself... being outdoors is a good one!  Breathing exercises are also good.
  • And at the end of each day, let it all go, and allow yourself the well-earned rest.  All the burdens will still be there in the morning, and you'll be better equipped to choose wisely which ones to pick up, and which to discard!

Much love, and reminders to be kind to one another.  Because Life is Good.  Keep on Sparkin'!

  1. Glad that DS finaly got his truck! Lordy, 11 month wait.

Yes, what a devastating event on MT. Blessings to those working to get things rebuilt.

Our weather is definitely summer-y here, too. But ready for it.

Great advice in this weather . . . thanks!

    1. He brought it (and Carl) over to show off (and to procrastinate on his school work). He took me for a ride to the dog-park with Carl, and talked about the various features. Loved watching it show how it was charging during coasting and slow braking. On the short trip to the dog park, it got 57.3 mpg. Which is a good thing, given the price of a tank these days!

Prayers for all affected by the heat and other weather.

  2. Looks like Carl has given his seal of approval for the truck.

Our air currently deemed 'unhealthy' -- high heat (triple digits), high humidity, Sahara sand, smoke from fires in neighboring counties -- staying indoors.

Hard to watch the devastation in Yellowstone. We spent time there twice on road trips.

    1. Carl is a happy pup whenever he's with his man, so a new truck that the man obviously approves of is fine with Carl!

Sorry about your air quality. Stay safe out there... fires cut a broad path!

  3. Just read an article on the Ford recall; the car will roll while on Park. Not the model in the picture, son is safe.

    1. That's good to know... just to be sure, I went and looked up the list of models affected. Whew! Not this one. At least not as of now. I remember that Honda airbag recall several years back came out in waves... first it was one list of models, my Fit got added to the list later. But they got the recall notice to me in the mail just fine!

    2. I’ve gotten a recall letter before πŸ€”it didn’t seem to be published anywhere though. Wonder if it’s only published if it’s a danger to the driver and/or the publicπŸ€”

    3. They do send letters to owners of vehicles they KNOW about. But they should also be publishing recalls so that those who bought a car used on the private market can take notice. Yes, it's a danger, but as with anything you pick up at a garage sale... the manufacturer may not know you've got their "thing".

  4. We're getting the smoke and haze from the wildfires in Utah. You can really smell it and that means the windows stay closed for us with the A/C on. It's so hard to see the devastation that water brings to so many.

Corona has done so much to everyone around the world. It's sad how many smaller businesses and restaurants have went under because of it. That's a great idea to start a new tradition with your friend.

    1. Some of those changes that the pandemic brought to our lives are becoming oh, so permanent. I've moved to a much more on-line and cashless economy. It was already moving in that direction, the pandemic just pushed it faster.

The climate changes are hitting some of the most beautiful sections of the country hard!

  5. Carl’s new ride … he’s lovin’ it already!! Hope son finds it to be well-worth the wait!
DH and I just returned from a 2,800 mile drive from FL to OH and MO to visit family and friends. It was very sad to see the emptiness of strip malls/town centers/office buildings all across the country. So many businesses closed…Enjoying a food truck picnic with a friend is a great idea!
Scary heat everywhere…important to hydrate and pace yourself IF working or exercising outdoors…and do so as early in the A.M. as possible!
Take good care on this Thursday, Life IS Good! ❤️ Eissa7

    1. He is. Son is learning more about the truck as he drives it and tests out the features. He got a few that he did not order, like the automatic climate control. He suspects that the reason he got it was because it would have been more expensive for the dealer to take it out than to just let him have it without charge. The remote start is nice, and it's so quiet (hybrid) when it starts... no growl.

Yes, ma'am to the hydration caution! Have a Thankful Thursday!

  6. It is something to see which businesses made it and which didn't or had to change into something different. I like that tradition idea. AC is going into our window today for sure. We weren't able to do it yesterday but sure will need it today.

  7. Nice truck!
Many places here have closed and are being reborn or renewed. We do our best to support the local economy although my diet has taken a bit of a hit.

The flooding is so sad. I remember similar floods in the late 1990's or early 2000's in Utah near Zion NP.
Nature doing what it is supposed to do. We need to be more careful to NOT build those creek-side homes with a river view or meandering riverside roads.

    1. Nature does what nature does. And much of what nature will do is predictable. I have often lamented that my insurance premiums were spent replacing homes that were built in risky (though beautiful) places. Insurance spreads the cost of foolishness, as well as the cost of the unexpected.

I once had a meeting with an insurance investigator who said something to that effect... while they would ask the questions about whether you left your vehicle unlocked when it was stolen... they still would pay the claim.

After I wrote that about the restaurant, I saw on FB that my local bicycle shop is selling up, too. Another bike company will take over the shop, thank goodness.

  8. A man driving a pick-up with his dog in the back...typical Missouri. He'd fit right in. ;-)

The news videos from Montana and Wyoming are gut wrenching. The sight of the homes sliding into the Yellowstone River are unbelievable and difficult to watch.

Dining al fresco for lunch or dinner, to restart an old tradition and catch up with friends, sounds like a win/win to me. Although, with this wicked heat wave, cooler days might be a better choice...at least it would be for me.

On an unrelated note: You and I have similar takes on masking and staying away from large indoor crowds due to the pandemic. This morning I read that Dr. Fauci has tested positive for Covid. Disease respects no boundaries.

Today those "Sparkie" lessons are relevant and we need to care for ourselves.

    1. LOL... my DIL to be wrote a note on her post of that photo to reassure anyone who might be concerned... Carl does not actually ride back there, but up in the crew cab with the people. However, says son, the first thing Carl did on being introduced to the truck was to jump up into the bed. She could not resist taking advantage of the photo op, though.

I am so sorry that Dr. Fauci got Covid, and hope it's mild and that he recovers quickly and fully. The disease does not care who you are, just if it can get a toehold!
