Before we get to the home improvement work of the day, I bring you the Ember chronicles. I have no idea what started her on a zoomies / digging spree, but that's kind of how our day started.
She did not want to be polite about putting on her harness, so Mommy said "no walkies until you are ready". And we did a "four paws in" to the crate so we got a better shot at getting her into the harness when she came back out.
That worked, but then we had "discussions" about getting the leash clipped and letting Mommy have her end of it. Mommy just kept persistently saying that if you don't follow the human rules, you're not ready.
Eventually Ember decided to follow the rules, and we went for a once around the block walk before the electrician arrived. She was put into her safe space (crate) shortly before Bruce arrived.
Bruce the electrician installed three new fixtures for me, and gave me an assessment of what was going on with the motion sensor light in the back. Turned out the light fixture had gone bad, so we found something that will combine floodlight and security camera that he can come back and install when it arrives.
The three things? Exhaust fan in the half bath off the master bedroom. Ceiling fixture in the laundry room. And the prize: over the counter light in the kitchen.
I had Bruce boost it to the brightest setting (it's LED, had several choices) because of the cataract in the left eye not having been taken care of yet.Bonus: cleaning behind the microwave and that entire counter. Doesn't it look marvellously puppy-proof?
Unintended consequences of the assessment of the motion sensor light fixture is that the older bulb in it broke. So I had to also do some extra cleanup on the deck.
As Bruce was wrapping up, the doorbell rang. It was Nate, the sprinkler repair specialist. He was here to fix the cracked valve on the backflow control, and restore the water to the sprinklers. He brought along a crew of two young men who would be working on the sprinkler heads today. He checked out the flagging in the back yard, and the paint on the grass back there, and pronounced that even if the flags were removed (by Ember) he would still be safe doing his work. That work will be split between today and next Monday.
In the meantime, Ember can have her back yard back for the weekend, meaning she can be unleashed! We shall see how Mommy implements this.
I finished up the sweeping of the deck before letting Ember out for a leash walk through the back yard, and an introduction to Ben (one of the young men) in the front. Then we had a very brief biological walk before coming back inside and cooking Mommy some breakfast.
Ember supervises the new phase of work, in this shot. After a trying day yesterday, today seems to be (knock wood) going much better. I am hoping that trend continues, as Zoom Room is having their 1st Anniversary in business at this location party at 6 p.m., and I signed Ember up as attending.
Life is good. Spark on!
Your countertops are like ours (house built in 1981). Glide-out shelves in lower kitchen cabinets and pantry and china cabinet have been on my wish list for decades and this project has finally made it to the top 3 wishes. We had these done in both bathroom upgrades a few years ago and enjoy the access ease provided for 'stuff'.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy reading the Ember stories although I don't always comment.

Your house and mine were built in the same general era... mine was built in 1978. It's not surprising to see similar colors, materials, etc. in homes of a similar time period.
DeleteYou're giving me ideas of things to add to "the list" of things to do when they reach the top of the priorities!
Wow! Today was fix-it day! Glad it went well. And Ember had a better day than yesterday (ergo, YOU DID, TOO!)
ReplyDeleteGood job teaching Ember that she has to follow Hu-Mom's rules or . . . no walkies. That's how it goes, right!
HUGS and hope you have fun w/Ember tonight.

The day deteriorated after I posted. Took Ember on a longer than usual afternoon walk, and it was a bit too much for her. She threw a puppy temper tantrum, on leash, in a driveway and yard across the street from my house on the way home. And she got nippy, too, after supper. I ended up cancelling her RSVP to the Anniversary party at Zoom Room. I have to figure this out.
DeleteMinimalism seems to be the answer to pup problems. Have a good time celebrating the first year business anniversary. π€ππΈπΆ
ReplyDeleteWe ended up not going as Ember was getting out of control as the afternoon waned. Hoping things will be better in the overnight and morning!
DeletePerhaps she is in the toddler stage we know as "NO!"
ReplyDeleteShe's about 4 months now?
Seems she's given you trouble in some of these extended walks. Maybe keep her walks the same length but add another in the day?
Lather rinse repeat.
Yep, I keep adjusting, trying things. I think the shorter walks, more often might be a good strategy. Some days I have done that and it's worked well.
DeleteI finally caved and bought a pair of "cut resistant" sleeves to preserve my arms, but she really has a thing about gloves. I did try a pair of cut resistant gloves, but she seems to view that as an invitation to chew on this new interactive toy.
Like we said about the weight management, it's an experiment of one. In this case, one human-puppy pair!
So much going on at your place too. Lots of stuff for puppies to react to I am sure. You are doing so great with that little girl.
ReplyDeleteI worry that I've exposed her to way too much, way too soon, but on the other hand, this is human life and a puppy must learn. But she can't learn everything all at once. Prioritizing the lessons based on circumstances is required. Kind of like the advice to parents of teens? Choose your battles?
DeleteAnyway, We were out in the back yard (on leash) Friday afternoon when the irrigation guy turned on the sprinkler heads back there. Interesting reaction on the part of the puppy. She'd been adapting to neighbors' sprinklers on earlier walks, so this wasn't quite as scary/new.
DH and I both agree on all the things. Your yard is such a huge distraction and Prisoner is too. Maybe kick back on some things for a while and simplify her life.
DeleteAbout the only thing I can "kick back on" might be the personal trainer. I've already canceled him for the week the tub/shower conversion is scheduled, and for my colonoscopy. I am considering boarding her for a couple of days (prep and procedure)?
DeleteBenji’s nippy often meant hungry, fwiw.
ReplyDeleteEmber's is a combination. Hungry definitely is an element, but so is "Mommy is lifting something high, that must mean jump for it", and "mommy is putting her arms around me, it must be playtime!" Or maybe just "let's play with these legs and see if we can make Mommy squeak"!
