Indoor and outdoor work... continued

Monday morning Ember and Prisoner got fed, watered and walked (well Ember got a walk, Prisoner does his own thing all day long).  Ember's walk was a tad earlier than "normal" (whatever normal is), and it was leash and collar only, as she hadn't been back in the crate for harness protocol.

She did get put "to bed" a little before 8 a.m., and then Josh showed up about 8:30 to continue the tub/shower conversion work.  Today, he tells me, he will put in the new drywall, and "mud" it.  He will have to do a little sanding and resurfacing of the ceiling because of the mud work.  Tuesday, the plan is to get the actual shower walls installed.

Shortly after Josh started in, I heard some rumblings outside.  Lo and behold, they are doing back yard prep work for the sod (still don't have exact date for sod install, but hoping it is soon after the prep work, lest another storm front washing out the preparations!)  Monday's plan is to tamp down the weed growth that has happened since the first cleanup back there, and bring in some more dirt for where it's washed out.  Once the sod gets laid, the washout situation should improve!

Graham (the apparent team lead) said they will be overseeding the front, too, so when that's done, will need to start the sprinklers on a "grow" kind of schedule.  Also need that in the back when the sod is down.

Mixed feelings about growing grass:

Am I the only one who remembers reading about the motivation of the 9/11 bombers being related to the American obsession with growing grass lawns?  And it being a waste of good water, which is so needed in some parts of the world.  I mean, we don't eat the grass!  Nor do most of us raise livestock on it.  This gives me misgivings about the whole idea.  I live in a green grass lawn suburb, and being a bit of an aging hippie, I feel guilty about this use of resources!

At the same time, I have received a lot of compliments from neighbors about how good my yard is looking.

Ember's teething choices

Stuff found in the yard.

Stuff mom gave her to destroy.

Stuff that washed down through the yard.

Regularly approved toys.

And toys actually designed for teething puppies.

Life is good!  Keep on Sparking!

  1. Well, sounds like it’s a little less hectic w/Ember. All good.

Glad that the shower install is progressing. It’ll be good to have PROJECTS completed!

Can’t say that Ember doesn’t lack for things to play with/chew on! Lucky girl.

Good luck managing through all these projects!

    1. End of Monday, two coats of "mud", it has a fan on overnight for drying. Last mud coat tomorrow, and hopefully, actual shower walls.

Ember has just been melting my heart today! Even with a wrestling match to get her back in her den at an unusual time, she is doing SO much better with bite inhibition. Yes, I got a couple of new nicks, but they were minor.

And those eyes when I left her in the house alone for five or ten minutes to go talk to the guys who showed up with rolls of sod... such a sweetheart... she missed me!

    1. Repeating, repeating, repeating: it will look good. In three weeks. That's how long before the first mow, and water three times a day. Talk about feeling guilty in drought territory!

  3. Everything's looking good! I will soon have to arrange for the custom-tiled shower enclosure in my master bath to be re-tiled (loose tiles & cracks). This will be "Round 3" for my 32-yr old farmhouse, not too shabby!

    1. Not shabby at all! There's always something with a house, isn't there. Doesn't matter how new or old, there's always another project you either need or want to do!

Day 32 - Today I am thankful...

I was having a hard time coming up with gratitude this morning and fell back onto the Anne of Green Gables classic of "a new day with...
