Pause for the weekend

Stopped for the weekend, with this much done.

The shower floor is protected under a tarp, and the door stays closed, of course.

Josh will be back at it on Monday morning.

Evening and overnight rain

The rain kept us mostly inside, and I slept well.  I think it ended by 1 or 2 a.m.  But it was heavy enough to wash things down through the yards.

Ember found an A&W Cream Soda can that had done just that, and proudly carried it to the front door and into the house, resisting my cues to "drop it" even when baited with her favorite treats.

When it frayed to the "dangerous" level under her persistent teething, I traded her some mozzarella cheese for it, and into the trash it went.  I filed this episode under "choose your battles".

Morning walkies happened about 6:30 a.m.  Not all of her breakfast had been consumed at that point, so little extra bits of breakfast kept being hand-fed through her waking hours of the morning.

When she went down for her regular nap at 9 a.m. or so, I took the opportunity to break down all the Chewy boxes to take to the recycle center.  I always feel virtuous after a trip to recycle.

When I got home and was unloading the empty bins from the hatch, Bill was walking by with Barnaby.  He invited Ember over for a bit of off-leash in his back garden.  She was still sleeping then, but an hour and a quarter later, she was awake again.  Over we went.  The two dogs wore each other out in about 20 minutes, then we called it, Barnaby went inside, and Bill helped me understand the Easy Walk harness better, and showed me the easy way to put it on and off, once it was fit right.  We made some adjustments to the fit, and came to the same conclusion that the trainer had:  she needs to grow just a bit in the chest to make it completely "right", but it will work for now.

After her playtime with Barnaby, and sharing a slice of cucumber from Mommy's lunch salad, Ember has stretched out to puppy nap in the TV room as I type this up.

Life is good in Emberville.  Spark on!

  1. How wonderful there's someone knowledgeable in the neighborhood who can lend a helping hand with the pup. "Many hands" as the verse goes. Happy weekend. Looks like we're both in for several rounds of noisy weather. ⛈️⚡

    1. Yeah, that noisy weather... it's that time of year, isn't it?

  2. Glad you have the weekend off and glad you got that can away from Ember. Sheesh!

That’s wonderful that Barnaby and Ember were able to play and wear each other out. That’s the BEST.

Ember likes cucumbers! Huh . . . have to try that w/Miss Lilly!

And glad that Bill could help with the Easy Walk harness. I am sure before long Ember will have grown totally into it.

    1. I am so grateful to live in a neighborhood that for the most part people love and understand dogs. On a 5 p.m. walk, we encountered a neighbor who was buttoning up their yard sale, and the gent came out and squatted down to Ember's level and petted her and asked about her lab variety, whether she was a silver? He has a relative who has a silver lab, and Ember has enough of that shade mixed in to her that I'm not surprised she might be taken for one in the right lighting. It was a lovely conversation, and Ember was oh, so well behaved. Heart is full!

  3. The story about the can reminded me of the toddler comment - nothing moves faster than a toddler asked 'what do you have in your mouth?' Guess puppies and toddlers are pretty alike ;) Have a great weekend.

    1. Indeed they are! Funny, that's the same question I ask the puppy!

I did say I have a digger on my hands

Ember's latest efforts, from Thursday morning.  She had started on this hole Tuesday or Wednesday, maybe even before that.  But as of ...
