Sunday afternoon, Ember poured herself off her comfy couch position onto the floor. Had I not watched the procedure I might not have believed a dog could be so completely fluid and limp, but there she is, a puddle of dark fur on a gray floor.
Her front feet went onto the floor first, her hooded eyes half-asleep still. A big stretch elongated her body as it slid closer and closer to falling off. Surprisingly it was not a big thump, but more like a swimmer's splash.
I've seen her do this more than once.
It's another hot day in Emberville, Monday. It rained overnight, so the ground is muddy and the sprinkler guys did not show up.
I got my shoes and jeans muddy doing the poo patrol. While trying to get the shoes at least a little de-muddied, I emptied the puppy pool and put it away in the garage.
As the day warmed, I pulled it out again, and started to fill it before noon.
On our morning walk around the block, we encountered Bella, an older lab mix. The two dogs sniffed at one another and somehow Bella slipped loose from her leash, and started zooming around the nearest yard. Fortunately, Bella is not just old, but also wiser, in terms of well trained, and her recall to her dad was good. Meanwhile, I just held Ember in a sit with lots of treats and praise. Then we both went off on our separate walking routes. Oh, and no stolen flags this morning.
I canceled the trainer sessions (as in personal trainer, for me, not Ember's training!) through the 25th of June. Between the weather, the sprinkler work, the upcoming shower conversion, and the colonoscopy, I'm thinking Ember needs the stability of a mom in residence, not off galavanting. I also called up the vet's office and reserved her boarding space for the prep and procedure days... and also puppy day care so she can play with the other puppies, provided she behaves herself.
Life is good. Spark on!
LOL! I can imagine Ember’s slow slip from the couch to the floor. So fun!
ReplyDeleteProbably a great idea to be with Ember right now as the schedule has been disrupted. Definitely they need that stability!
Going to be hot here, too. Then storms. So, will get Miss Lilly out while it’s dry!

Sometimes it is just time to simplify, not just for the puppy, but for ME, too! No serious bites since the one Saturday morning. That one is in the process of healing.
DeleteI am extra alert to making my responses to the first sign of tooth use a gentle one, and removing attention from her instead of making a big fuss. And we are "mostly" at peace, still having issues with harness and leash, but at least we have a harness protocol.
There's a challenge with being in your 70's with thin skin and dealing with sharp little puppy teeth, but I had thought we made good progress and I am optimistic that we shall again. It's Tuesday morning, and we will be going to the trainer's in about 4 hours to see what they have to say.
Your plate is more than full. Take a deep breath! ODAT and one thing at a time will hopefully help you through all the situations that lie ahead. π€ππΆπΈ
ReplyDeleteTuesday a.m. and the sprinkler guys are outside. Ember is in her den and complaining about being there, but she's had her breakfast, a good walkies, and her bodily functions taken care of. I have a load of laundry in, and the cat's outside. Time to plug the ears and breathe!
