Can you believe how tiny Ember was three months ago?
My son and his wife have been officially approved as licensed foster parents in our state. The next step is a meeting with a Foster Care Counselor/Specialist who will provide them with guidance through the matching with a child.
There may potentially be a phase of "respite care" where they provide short-term care for foster children being fostered by others. I'm not entirely sure how that works, but it seems logical for folks like them, who have no children in the home, to transition and learn how it all works.
Each weekend I see more progress in their preparations of the room they have prepared for "the kiddo" whenever a match is made. Carl may be in for a bit of a shock, then again, he may be over the moon to have a smaller human with whom to interact. I'm sure "the kids" have plans upon plans for how that introduction will work.
I'm so proud of them for taking on this so-needed role in our community and state.
Life is good. Spark on!
There is a special place in Heaven for remarkable people like your "kids". As a special educator (retired), I can tell you, that a loving home produces phenomenal results in a child. They are filling a desperate need in our society. Blessings for and to them. ππΌπΌ
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jeanne. I feel the same.

I will no doubt update when things are more "concrete" but this progression has been very interesting, from the application process they went through, to the classes they were taking, to this next phase of matching a child to their home situation!
DeleteYes, it is a long process. I thought at one point, "Wow! They know more about me than *I* know!" All worth it.
DeleteThere was one questionnaire that my son really did not want to answer, so the lady who was working with them, interviewed him and filled it in. Worked a lot better that way. It's hard for guys who aren't much on talking about themselves.
DeleteAw, that's great! It's a special person who takes on fostering and your "kids" are special.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Life shapes us all, and I believe the lives they have lives up to this point will help them through the next challenging phase of parenthood.
