Bonus Blog: Providing Tech Support

This is just a random picture.  I was walking someone (you know who) through how to add a photo to a BlogSpot blog.  And I think with my fingers, a lot of the time.

Seriously, it's a learning curve, so I offered up my phone number so that we could sit at our own computers and be on the phone, and she could tell me what she's looking at and I could detect where she was and help her get "just the basics"... but one of your favorite bloggers is giving it a go!

So excited to be part of the support team!✨💖🎆

  1. Thanks for helping LeanJean! I would have missed her blog as much as I would have missed yours.

    1. Me, too. It has always been my intention to reach out to her, when she was ready. This morning was that day!

  2. Some of us are "kinesthetic" learners -- even if it's computer stuff, we need to DO it!! Not just read about it!!

  3. Thanks for helping! It's a new deal for all of us, and we'll find new healthier friends to add on and learn new things, it's good to hang onto those who we have been reading along the healthy road.

    1. It's all about the connections... and you would not believe how much I re-learned reading my own past blogs! And following links I left in them to blogs of others!

  4. Thank you so much for helping her! I could tell from my last phone call that we needed to have another soon. But then I wondered if maybe someone might be a better teacher than me. We all have our own learning styles. Great job! She looks like an old hand now!

    1. No problem. More than happy to help out... I used to do this sort of thing professionally. I programmed for a living, and then spent some time training people to use the apps I developed, but on the side I helped around the office with spreadsheets, word, documentation tools, etc., too.

I have a long suit in patience, and totally understand the need for context and understanding where the learning is on the curve. Sometimes it takes a few questions to figure that out.

  5. Blogger seems to be finicky about accepting a post. Sometimes yes sometimes they just vanish. I keep trying to remind myself to copy my post before hitting publish but I’m too quick on the trigger at times. Oh well.

My DS is a whiz. When I needed help, I used to throw him out of the computer chair and say “No! Don’t tell me how! Tell me what to push!”

He had to take a computer class to graduate high school but the classes were so basic he got in trouble and was sent to the Vice Principal’s office. We were called in and when he reviewed the incident he roared. The instructions were to create a revolving marquee. He did that but he added glorious colorful fireworks and music. Sadly the message said, “This class sucks!” The VP said he could go take a college class and use that to fulfill the requirement. And this the saga began.

You are an asset in so many ways.

    1. Your DS sounds a lot like mine. When he served overseas his unit called him "Wizard" due to his computer skills. That was NOT his major, but I have to admit he was exposed to computers in the home before he touched Kindergarten. The soldiers in his unit even made him a Christmas stocking with that label... I still have it.

These kids grew up with technology as a native language. My niece used to change my desk or laptop's setup when she visited my house. I think she thought she was making things better. But I would mutter under my breath after she left while I put it back the way *I* preferred.

When her dad passed away, she figured out his password patterns so she could let his online friends know he was gone.
Of course, some forward-thinking tech firm snapped her up and she works in computer / network security these days.

Which is fine by me... time for the next generation to take over!
