Last day for a while to work in the yard

It is unseasonable warm and overcast this morning.  As in 69℉!  I took advantage to cut down some of the volunteer trees that have dropped most of their leaves.  The lack of leaves makes it easier for me to lop them down.

The Prisoner very vocally escorted me back toward inside when I went out to snap that photo.  Then he hopped on my lap for a while and purred... only to ask to go back outside, moments later.  Cats!  Go figure.

A while after I came back inside at The Prisoner's insistence, my phone rang.  It was the mythical son, calling to check up on me, having recovered from his cold from last weekend.  I view these every so often calls as a gift.  I asked after his school, and his job and he's stressing a bit because the hours at his job that count toward his education/degree are not adding up fast enough.

Turns out the hours he spends driving to the appointments that *do* count as "ed" hours are paid but not given school credit.  He's not getting enough "ed" hours on average to meet the school deadline to graduate in December.  It looks as though he won't graduate until May.

😟 Bummer.  But it will work out such that he can keep working that job long enough to get the credits. He'll be able to get his certification, etc. and be done with grad school at that point.  Disappointed?  Yes, it's behind his anticipated schedule.  But it's not the end of the world.  Breathe.  You've got through worse, son.

Fellow US folks, did you have a calm election day?  For all the media hype and hysteria, this was a pretty normal Nebraska election.  Closer than usual, but the Republicans won pretty much all the offices where the party was denoted.

We have a number of non-partisan offices, where they don't give you the party affiliation of the candidates on the ballot.  This includes our state senators (unicameral).

We split on two ballot issues. We passed the increase to the minimum wage.  It's about time.  We passed Voter ID.  It was a vaguely worded thing, leaving it up to the state legislature to define just what that means.  We shall see.

Bottom line, it was peaceful.  Nobody yelled foul.  Those who lost, conceded.  But also gave their supporters credit for how well they ran the campaign, because the races turned out to be closer than usual.  Me?  I'll be glad to see the end of the political ads.

After teasing us with these warm temperatures, the weatherman is telling us the high tomorrow will be about midnight, with the temperatures plunging over the daylight hours, and the high on Friday maybe 30℉.  Brrr!  It's the roller coaster and the sudden drops that are troublesome, right?

Kid sis Ace came over after her workday for our usual Wednesday walk.  I walked in shirtsleeves and shorts; she went as far as a tank top.  It was overcast and windy, but we had a record high temperature for the date at 74℉.  We observed that the neighborhood had been taking advantage to get the Halloween decorations put away for the year.  As I waved her off on her way home, other neighborhood folks were getting home from their jobs and taking advantage of the weather, too.

Here's hoping your Wednesday has gone well and that you're taking care of your health, best can do, one day at a time.

Life is good.  Spark on!

  1. Cats work so hard to keep their humans in line. Everyday is independence day for them. The cats, not the humans.

So very sorry to read about DS and his lack of credit. I can only imagine his disappointment. A Masters' Degree will be worth the wait.

When I checked at bedtime last night my candidate was in the lead. This morning the final numbers were in...no changes in leaders. Sad.

It was 80* here today. Apparently broke some records. Guess all the stats will make the early morning weather. Highs predicted for Sunday are the middle 30s. Roller coaster indeed. A miserable ride if there ever was one. ;-)

Have a marvelous evening!! Keep Sparkling!!

    1. So true! Prisoner comes miaowing only when he wants me to do something. It's a guessing game sometimes, as to what. Most often it has to do with food or door opening, sometimes he wants a lap.

A mom's job of helping the kids maintain perspective never ends, does it? We swap that chore back and forth.

  2. Cats...!
Bummer on the ed hours. Something similar happened to DD1 and she had an extra semester as well. She survived and picked up a few extra skills along the way through the experience.

People here took advantage and started hanging Christmas lights!

    1. I'll bet this will enhance your Christmas light viewing experience.

Yeah, those last hours of a degree, the push to write a graduate level dissertation... it's kind of like the "last ten pounds" we hear myths about. But they live, they push it over the finish line and we all celebrate!

  3. I started cleaning up the yard the other day. It's always sad to put it to sleep until next spring, but now we can rest a bit.The weather is going to be in the 40s' next week and I'll probably start getting things ready to decorate outside.

Our elections are still going on for a couple of things, but for the most part we're no longer considered a purple state, we are blue now. YAY! We're just waiting to hear about Lauren Boebert. It looks like she's going to lose and the state is happy about that. Some really good things passed, free lunch for all school kids. It's always a peaceful here and everything went normal.

    1. Free lunch for all kids, no hoops to jump through sounds like an awesome thing. We had that during the pandemic, they just dropped any requirements hoops and fed them all. A good way to use that influx of funds that came during that challenging time. Interesting to see what states choose to make some of these things permanent.

It's always peaceful here, too. I think that is because neither your state nor mine is a "battleground".

  4. This was the first year since we moved here that hubby didn't have to do all that work in Mom's yard, what a blessing for him. Snow tires to go on next week.

    1. Not having to do your mom's yard? Now that's a great reason for gratitude! Blessing indeed. And good for you getting those snow tires mounted, too.

    1. Yes, I'm still watching returns from California. Here in the County Attorney race, it still has not been called. We have the incumbent and a challenger and they slung a lot of mud on one another, and both said the other fella was mis-representing in the ads. Sigh.
